The Hellenic Orthodox Church
in Houston was the scene Sunday
night of the marriage of Miss
Mary Ann Pavlides to Andrew G.
Chalas. Rev. G. Kalpaxis officiated
at the double ring ceremony.
The bride is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Paul Sam Pavlides and
granddaughter of Mrs. Manuel
Glaros, former residents of Pala-
cios. Mrs. Pauline Chalas is the
groom's mother.

bers and two visitors present Sun-
day, August 21.

Schools sponsored an ice cream
supper honoring the football boys
Monday night.
Mr. and Mrs. Gus Braden and
girls and Frances Swinky went to
Columbus Sunday to spend the day
with Mrs. Braden's sister.
Miss Frances Swinky and Miss
Rose Mary Braden went to Hous-
ton Sunday to spend the week
with Mr. and Mrs. Bill Herring.
Mrs. Arther Mattlies visited' in
Houston over the week-end.
Mr. Dick Powell and Miss Fran-
ces Powell were business visitors
in El Campo Wednesday.
Mr. and Mrs. Abner Ussery
visited in Victoria Sunday with
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bailey and
family.
Mrs. L. L. Rhodes of Velasco
visited Mr. and Mrs R. H. Rhodes
over the week-end.
Mrs. Katie Emma Vaclavick has
been released from the Matagorda
General Hospital after spending a
few days recuperating from a
slight case of pneumonia.
Mrs. John L. Sullivan, Mrs. A.
Foster, and' Miss Frances Powell
spent Friday afternoon in Bay
City shopping.
Mr. Herman Powell and Mr. Dick
Powell attended the funeral of
their two cousins in West Colum
bia Tuesday.
The Harry Cowgers of Clemville
were Sunday visitors in the Schulte
home.
Mr. and Mrs. Cole of Conroe
Texas, visited with their daughter
and family, Mr. and Mrs. Clinton
Wallace. Miss Peggy Sue Cole re-
turned home with her parents.

Mr. and Mrs. John Barton of
Freeport announce the birth of
their daughter, Kax-en Ann, on
August 12. The proud grandpar-
ents are Mr. and Mrs. Adolphus
Rioux of Palacios and Mr. and Mrs.
John Barton, Sr. of Corpus Christi.
Great grandparents are Mr. and
Mrs. R. F. Buffaloe of Palacios.
Mrs. Barton is the former Miss
Darlene Rioux of Palacios.

Mrs. Ruthella Rotrock returned
this week from a vacation trip to

Charlie Peterson had quite a
thrill last Friday when he shot an
alligator in Sartwell's pond. The
alligator was 7V2 feet long and
weighed' 90 pounds.
Emil Peterson and L. E. Frank-
son have both been on the sick list,
glad to report that both are much
better.
Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Abrahamson
were calling on the G. L. Cavallin's
Friday and also attending to busi-
ness in Ganado and Edna.
Dr. and Mrs. M. C. Frankson
and sons of Bay City spent Sunday
with his parents Mr. and Mrs. F.
M. Frankson and family.

CHICKEN BARBECUE
C. E. Odems reports that the
colored Mission Women of Palacios
will servo chickcn barbccue on the
lawn of the Pilgrim Rose Baptist
Church on September 3. An invita-
tion is extended to their friends to
come and be with them.
Mr. and Mrs. Paul Miller and
children returned last weak from a
vacation trip to Longhorn and
Carlsbad Caverns and the Big Bend
National Park.

Four Area Students
Pre-register At WCJC
WHARTON—A young English-
woman, now making her home in
Old Ocean, was among the large
number of students to pre-register
for the fall term at the Wharton
County Junior College last week.
She is Mrs. Winifred Coleman, a
business major.
Three valedictorians and two
salutatorians were also among the
pre-registrants. They were Iva Lee
Hargett, Van Vleck; Carolyn Mur-
phy, Sheridan; and Cora Mae
Hayes, Boling, valedictorian; Ad'
die Lee Kresta, Louise, and Imo-
gene Baldwin, Pierce, salutatorians.
Pre-registration will continue
through September 9. Fees may be
paid at the College any time be-
tween September 1 and September
9.
Others who pre-registered dur-
ing the week just ending included:
Palacios: Geraldine Batc-'nelder,
Freddie Roach, Juan Placencio and
Leona Gann of Danevang.
Mrs. Tommy Ferguson and chil-
dren of College Station have been
the guests of her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. J. F. Barnett and family, for
the past two weeks.
