We have had to stand off and
take but three square knock
downs since Mr. Robson left this
paper in our care, and therefore
feel that our work has been gen-
erally appreciated by our read-
ers.
Candidates, take notice. Tick-
ets for the election will be print

NO DEAD HEADS
Hurrah! The dead is alive,
and the Echo man has been
heard from, yes, we had a let-
ter from the little fellow.
We received a pleasant call
from Mr. W. M. Boles, the gen-
tlemanly mail contractor for
Northwest Texas. He has done
a great deal toward remedying
and modifying the mail facili-
ties.
Some years ago, P. M Wil-
son, a young man, then well
known in Lafayette, courted an
estimable young lady, a Miss
Carrie Bungard. He decided to
go to Texas to make a home for
her. He left promising to come
back as soon as possible, and
she promising to wait until he
returned. Years passed, and
he came not, but still she wait-
ed Two weeks ago Wilson ap-
peared suddenly in Layfette,
somewhat to the surprise of
some friends, but not to her, be-
cause "she knew lie »would
come." Speedy preparations
were made for the weeding, and
night before last they were,
quietly married at the residence
of S. W. Peck, in the Fourth
ward, by the Rev. Mr Guthrie-.
The ceremony was witnessed by
a few intimate friends Fafay-
elle find.) Daily Couriar Sep 20
This P. M. Wilson will be re-
membered by our readers and
his many friends as the young
man who jerked lightning at this
place fur something like a year
and a half, and left here only a
24th Group Meeting and Geo.
Washington Dinner tonight at
the McLetnore Hotel, 8 p. m., at
which time the Albany Lions
Ciub will be hosts to ten clubs
of surrounding territory. Dis-
trict Governor Horace M. Cond-
ley will, address the gathering,
and oilier interesting speakers
are scheduled to appear, while
musical numbers will add varie-
ty to the affair, Visitors are
< >peciod from Abilene, Anson,
Baird, Breckenridge, Cisco,
Merkel, Roscoe, Sweetwater,
Tiuockniorton and Winters. All
local Lions and their wives are
expected to be present.
Old J! Pluvius got busy Mon-
day night, set the trap, sprang
the trigger, and, blast it all, we
had a deluge, precipitation 1.82.
The-'creeks, .got on a rampage,
the tanks are all lipping full, old
mother earth is soaked down to
tije rocks. But gosh, grand old
Shackelford county sure is
green. Never in our history
have we had a better season.
The editor is back from a stay
in a federal hospital in Mus-
kogee, Qkla. it's what is term-
ed a Veteran Hospital for crip-
pled and diseased ex-sold^ers. It
was a wonderful experience for
us, as it was our first stop in a
hospital of any sort. There were
some 300 or 400 si$c soldier boys
up there. We went up to have
our eyes operated on for catar-
acts, but tfie board of surgeons
decided that the melons were
not ripe, they claim that it will
not do to pull a green cataract,
else they will come back. For
more than a year we have been
denied the privilege of reading
books and papers. We are not
complaining, not lamenting, as
we knew some day the god of
science will come along and
clear the dark mantle away, and
again we will be able to look
into the, faces of human beings,
wo- know that again we will be-
hold the petal of the fragrant
(lowers, life is a great game if
you don't weaken, and by the
o'ey'nal God we are going to play
the game like a man
