Future Homemakers Honor Seniors,
Install New Officers At May 26th Tea 1
Members of the Albany
High School chapter of
the future Homemakers
of America honored the
senior FHA'ers last Mon-
day, May 26, with a tea in
the home economics room
at AHS during which each
senior was presented
with a red rose.
The new officers of the
local chapter were in-
stalled during a special
ceremony. The incoming
officers for the next
school year will be Jana
Tabor president; Lori
Maxey vice president of
programs; Genee Wagley
vice president of en
counters; Deidra New
comb vice president of
projects; Liz Sazama
vice president of public
relations; Lisa Davis
recording secretary; Con
nie Edgar parliamen
tarian; Sandy Stovall
historian; Theresa York -
corresponding secretary;
Denise Walsworth -
treasurer; Krista Higgle
chaplain; and Suzie
Weaver - reporter.
Several members were
recognized during the
Spirit Day program Fri-
day, May 23. Senior
member Karen Macgre
gor distributed certifi
cates to the Outstanding
Members, including
Sheila Bernstein, Letha
Key, Tami Morrow, and
Connie Edgar; and to the
Most Valuable Member,
Liz Sazama.
Encounter Levels were
also given by Miss Mac
gregor to 13 FHA'ers for
their work in the organi
zation and 'for the com
munity. Those receiving
the honor of Encounter I
were Jill Holson, Connie
Edgar, Deidra Newcomb,
Liz Sazama, Jana Tabor,
Vanessa Boling, Jeannine
Lowe, Pam Nixon and
Leeann Brock. Encounter
II certificates were given
to Sheila Bernstein, Letha
Key, Tami Morrow and
Tammy Wiloth.

FINIS L. GARRETT
Finis L. Garrett, 93, of
Moran, and lifetime resi
dent of this area, died at
12:31 pm Monday, June 2,
1980 at Shackelford Coun
ty Hospital.
Services were held at
2:00 pm Wednesday, June
4 at the First United
Methodist Church in
Moran with the pastor,
the Rev. Kiel Quesen
berry, officiating. Burial
was in Moran Cemetery
directed by Godfrey
Funeral Home.
Mr. Garrett had sus
tained a broken hip in a
fall some weeks ago and
had been hospitalized in
Abilene and Albany since
that time.
He was born July 8,
1886 at Eolian in Ste
phens County. He mar
ried Lallie 0. Edwards
January 13, 1907 in

farmer.
He was preceded in
death by his wife on April
22, 1980.
Survivors are two
daughters, Mrs. G. W.
IVerliel Basham of Odessa
and Mrs. Claude (Irma)
Brooks of Midland; a sis
ter, Mrs. Alice Childs of
May wood, California; four
grandchildren; ten great
grandchildren and five
great great grand
children.
Grandsons and great
grandsons served as pall
bearers.
LENA MASHBURN
Mrs. Lena Hose Mash
burn, 77, of Killeen, died
Monday, June 2, 1980 in a
Temple hospital. Funeral
services were held at 4:00
pm Tuesday, June 3 at the
Harper Talasek Funeral
Home Chapel. The Rev.
Bob Montgomery of
ficiated, with interment in
Killeen Memorial Park.
A native of Sweet
water, Mrs. Mashburn
had lived in Killeen since
1952 where she and her
husband were engaged in
the restaurant business
for several years. A
member of the Methodist
Church in Moran. she was
also a charter member of
the Order of the Eastern
Star in Moran.,
Survivors include two
sons, R. L. (Bobi Mash
burn and James Barton
Mashburn, both of
Killeen; one daughter,
Rose Marie Connell of
Killeen; two brothers, T.
F. Pettus of Atlanta,
Georgia, and Vick Pettus
of Borden town. New
Jersey; three sisters,
Mrs. Leota Bartholomew
of Brownwood, Mrs: Ann
Worst of 'Atlanta,
Georgia, and Mrs. Bess
Brooks of Montgomery,
Alabama: .10 grand
children; and four great
grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Mitch
Connell, Matt Connell,
Scott Mashburn, Virk
Mashburn, Manuel Lopez,
and Jay Shapland.

Cisco Junior College Now Accepting
Applications For August Nursing Class
Applications for ad
mission to, the August
1980 class of the Cisco
Junior College Vocational
Nursing program on the
main campus in Cisco are
now being accepted, ac
cording to Technical
Vocational Dean, Gerald
Bint, and the program in
structor. Mrs. Veneta
Mitchell.
Plans are underway to
begin pre testing ap
plicants in March, so
those desiring to take ad
vantage of this program
should make application
as soon as possible
This twelve month pro
gram will hold classes on
the campus with clinical
work to be done, on a ro
tating basis, in the E. L.
Graham Memorial Hospi
tal in Cisco and the
Eastland Memorial Hospi
tal in Eastland.
Satisfactory completion
of the program entitles
the student to a gradua
tion certificate from the
school and to take the
State Board Examination
Upon successful comple
tion of the state board ex
animation, the graduate
will receive a Licensed
Vocational Nurse Cer
tificate.
A prospective student
must be at least 17 years
of age. and in good physi
cal and mental health
Students must be high
school graduates or fur
nish a GED establishing
high school equivalency

Next Screening Clinic
Slated July 1 At Depot
The immunization clinic
for school children, which
is included in the Multi
phasic Screening clinic at
Rockwell Community
Center, is scheduled on
the first Tuesday of each
month from 10:00 am to
3:00 pm at present.
Last week's announce
ment of the immunization
schedule was erroneously
given as being Monday,
June 2. The A ens regrets
the error.
The next clinic is
scheduled for Tuesday,
July 1; the August clinic
will be Tuesday, August
5. "Please mark the dates
on your calendar," said a
nurse of the Public Health
Unit, Region IV.

Rating At State Level

ist with the Albany High
School marching, contest
and stage bands, received
a II division or
"excellent", rating in state
competition Monday.
June 2.
The II rating qualified
the local band member as
a medalist, according to
Weldon McCutchen. Only
those receiving I and II
divisions are entitled to
the medals.
The state meet was
held on the University of
Texas campus at Austin.
Adams played at 9:15 am
and returned home that
afternoon. He was accom
anied by hia mother,
~rs. Linda Adams, and
Mr. and Mrs Weldon Mc-
Cutchen. McCutchen is
Director of Bands for the
Albany schools.
"I was kind of nervous,"
Jay admitted, "but it was
fun ar.d good experience.
It'll be easier next year,
and I'll be aiming for a I."
2 Men Arrested
By Local Officers
Two men were arrested
and charged with DWI at
the sheriffs office on
June 1. They are Ray
mond Earl Gibson, 27, of
Breckenridge and Robert
Marshall Russell. 31. of
Lueders.
