The J.D. Miers
Take 16-Day
Tour
The Albany News has
received a letter from Mrs. J.
D. Miers telling us of her trip.
Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Miers
returned home Sept. 30 from
visiting Canada, Japan, Korea,
Hong Kong, and Hawaii. They
enjoyed a wonderful trip and
were privilaged to spend a
week at the Tenth World
Pentecostal Conference, held at
Seoul Korea.
Leaving San Francisco air
port at 7:30 a.m. they were on
their way to Vancouver, B.C.,
where they met the others
which were on the tour with
them. From Vancouver, they
went to Nome, Alaska, where
the plane refueled. From
Nome, they headed toward
Japan, where it was thought
that the Sun would never go
down.
They crossed the Interna
tional Date Line, loosing one
whole day. It was proclaimed to
be the longest day ever spent
for the couple.
Arriving at the Tokyo air
port late in the evening and
going through the clearing
customs, they stayed at the
Tokamona Prince Hotel, which
was located in the heart of the
city.
The following day, they
toured the city and saw many
interesting sighis. It was noted
that Kokyo has a population of
eleven million, with four million
in the metropolitan area. Upon
leaving Tokyo for Seoul Korea,
and arriving in Seoul in the
evening, they went to the CAL
Hotel for dinner and night's
rest. There were signs in Seoul,
saying, "Welcome delegates to
the Tenth World Pentecostal
Conference."
After breakfast the next day,
all went to the host Church, the
Yoido Full (iospel Pentecostal
Church. The building, capable
of holding 8,000, held a
membership of 18,000.
That evening, service was
held in the Hyoching Stadium.
The crowd was estimated at
20,000. Services were opened
with prayer given by Rev.
Zimmerman, D.D., from the
states.Then came the flag
march, in which 36 different
countries were represented,
and which was a beautiful
sight. Seoul's Mayor Yang
Taikshik welcomed all of the
delegates.
The week proved very
exciting as the last service was
estimated at 50,000, with 40
different countries represent-
ed.
Leaving Seoul, they stayed
at the Hyatt Regon Hotel in
Hong Kong. There, they visited
Churches, schools, and apart-
ments. The city was very
crowded where there were as
many as twenty people in a one
bedroom apartment. Later,
they visited Coloon, an island
about three miles square with a
population of two million.
After a shopping spree, they
left Hong Kong for Honolulu,
Hawaii. While in Honolulu,
they stayed at the Hilton Hotel
on the Waakiki Beech. After
spending several days in
Hawaii, their next stop was San
Francisco.
At the end of their 16-day
tour, it was noted that home
looked great to them.
The couple is willing to share
with their friends and relatives
the slides taken of the trip upon
their return to Albany this
