The fire department was called
Monday afternoon to attend a hot
bla/e on the Dr Nick p Mitchell
place in the Levelview commu-
nity It started from the igniting
of gasoline in the tank of a trac-
tor driven by Jesse Church, who
works the place The bla/e spread
when the wheat stubble caught
fire threatening to spread over a
considerable territory.
The fire started when the rear
wheels of the tractor Mr Church
was driving fell Into « hole This
caused gas to leak out of the tank,
and when the ignition was turned
off the gas caught on fire Two of
tin- tires burned, together with
heavy damage to the motor; and
Mr Church estimates his loss at
from $800 to $1,000. und with no
insurance.
The stubble bla/e was really
what caused the fire department
to be called, and the damage from
this source might have been more
had it not been for Burrell Lee
Jr., who liv»s nearby. He hitched
his tractor to u one-way. and be-
gan plowing in front of the blaze.
The bla/e was hard to check in
this way, on account of so much
straw being left on the land by
the combine.
