See Ya' At The Game
The new game in town is girls'
basketball.
The team is the WTC Dusters,
and tonight they battle West
Texas State's varsity in their
season opener.
Game time is 6 p.m. at the
Scurry County Coliseum.
"We're looking good and I
think we have a strong team,"
said Dr. Sid Simpson, girls'
coach and athletic director.
"Our problem right now is
lack of depth. If we get hit by
too many injuries, we're in
trouble," Simpson said.
Probable starters for
tonight's game include Melissa
Taylor, 5-7 Gail, Texas, all-
district choice her senior year.
She was selected to play in the
Coaches North-South all-star
game. She will hold down one of
the guard positions.
June Sterling 5-4 (team shor-
tie) from Coahoma was recently
elected team captain. June is
one of two guards and was all-
district her senior year.
by Jeff Box
Theresa Beal will start at the
post position. Standing 5-10,
from Coahoma, Theresa was on
the all-district team three
times and all regional twice
played in the coaches North-
South all-star game, and in the
Texas-Oklahoma all-star game.
Bobbie Jones, 5-11 from Clint,
will man the other post position.
Bobbie was chosen all-district
her senior year.
Rounding out the top five is
Marilyn Payton, 5-11 from Lub-
bock. Marilyn is the team's
other captain and will play the
forward slot. Garnering all-
district awards four times, she
made all-regional her senior
year.
"We have a fantastic group of
girls and we're going all the
way!" Sterling said.
Tonight's game will be
against a team with a majority
of last year's starters returning,
according to Dr. Simpson.
"It's going to be tough, but I
think we can do it!" the coach
concluded.
