How About You Being One?
Character and Qualification* of Men De«ired.
1". The Artillery is in urgent need of a large
number of Officers at the present time. The object of
this School is to train a body of men fitted to fill the
more responsible positions of command in the Artillery,
and every effort will be made to select men of exceptional
character and proven ability. While it is desired to give
an opportunity to all eligible citizens to apply, no man
should apply whose record is not in every respect above
reproach and who has not the fundamental character-
istics to inspire respect and confidence.
2. The Artillery is in need of Officers who
have had a scientific and technical education, but this
is by no means a prerequisite to selection of Candidates.
It is essential, however, that every Candidate should now
have or be fitted, through previous study, to reacquire at
the School a thorough understanding and working
knowledge of arithmetic, algebra to include quadratic
equations and plane geometry. Civilians must be grad-
uates of a high school or have pursued an equivalent
course of instruction. A knowledge of trigonometry
to include solution of triangles and logarithms
desirable.

A Field Artillery Officers' Training School
has been established at Camp Zachary Taylor,
Louisville, Kentucky.
A Coast Artillery Officers' Training School
has been established at Fort Monroe, Virginia.
The enlisted personnel of the army is not
sufficient to supply the tremendous need for
officers which now exists in the Field Artillery.
Civilians are wanted, particularly older men
of mature judgment, whom the present draft
has as yet not touched. . ,
The army needs officers, and wants to make
them from the very best men in the United
States.

3. All Candidates must be citizens of ine United
States. No one is eligible who was born in a country
with which the United States is at War or of the Allies
of such a country, unless he emigrated to this country
before reaching the age of five years.
4. Older men of mature judgment, gained through
wide experience in business and professional life, are
especially desired. Such men need not hesitate to enter
this school because on graduation they cannot be com-
missioned above Second Lieutenants, as promotion will
be by selection and should be rapid if they demonstrate
ability.
