Premontr-The seventy-fifth birthday of
Texas independence was observed at tho
3 'laza Hotel by the school children and
patrons of Premont school. Two beau-
tiful large flags were given for the oc-
casion auf for future use in the schools.
The United States flng was presented by
Miss Clara M. Alt of Corpus Christ!
Woman's Auxiliary, G. A. R., for teach-
ing patriotism to the American school
children. The Texas flag was given by
Miss Adlna DeZavala of San Antonio,

flag were much in evidence. The hall
was well decorated with bunting and

The entertainment given last Saturday
night- at Mrs. Volkwein's was a success
from every point of view. It was given
for the benefit of the Catholic Church,
which is Just being completed. The la^

liepot. All the cream was sold ana
quite a nice balance was left.
About $35 has been made up for a be-
ginning of a now school library for the
Premont public school.

Alpine—Monday afternoon a party of
ladles met at the residence of Mrs. F. E.
Gillett for the purpose of discussing
plans for tho organization of a sowing
circle. While an organization was not
perfected, It. was decided they would meet
In an informal way every Monday after-
noon. The idea of the meeting will bo to
instruct the younger members in the art
of sewing.
Sunday morning, March 1J. a revival
meeting will begin at the Methodist
Church in this city, conducted by W. R.
Evans and assisted by Rev. A. N. Evans,

A beautifully arranged linen shower was
given Saturday morning at tho residence
of Miss Louise Paulus, complimentary to

Herreford, Edith Stafford, Adrleme Price
and Patty Jo Edwards. The house was
decorated in white and green and wed-
ding bells. Several very clever toasts
were drunk to tho hostess by Mesdames

and Strain. An old-fashioned well sui-
iounded by cat-tails, mosses and flowers
was arranged In one corner of tho room,
where, after the reading of a poem de-
scribing the hidden mysteries of an old
well, bucketful after bucketful of beauti-
ful linen was drawn up. Punch was
served. About forty guests were present

ly arranged. Tho color scheme of white
and green was effectively carried out, the
decorations being of white and green
crepe paper and white carnations and
green ferns. An Interesting word contest
was enjoyed in which Misses Gertrude
Hoffman and Ala.y Timmons tiod for hon-
ors. Each was presented with a bouquet
of white carnations. A dainty two-course
luncheon carrying out tho color scheme
way served.
Aliss Eva Bryant charming entertained
tho Friday Afternoon Five Hundred Club
at tho home of Mrs. J. E. Bryant, 800
Buchanan Street. There was a full at-
tendance of the club members and two
tables of guests playing. Tho club favor
was won by Aliss Delia Hughes and the
gin*!t favor by Airs. Garwood. The de-
licious refreshments consisted of chicken
salad with mayonnaise, tomato sand-
wiches, olives, pineapple ice, chocolate
ciiips with the club monogram embossed
on them and hot coffee with whipped
cream.
The P. E. O. will moet Tuesday after-
noon with Airs. ('. D. Jackson at 1104 Har-
rison Street. The subject Is 'Women of
tho Bible." Roll call will be answered
with Bible quotations.
The younger set in Amarlllo society
enjoyed a very pleasant social lunch at
the Forty Singers' Hall Friday evening.

a most enjoyable evening was spent.

day, when Airs. J. B. Leewright was at-
ht me to the Tuesday Bridge Club. Be-
sides the club members present were quite
a number of the hostess girl friends. Six
tables of players ln all participated in the
hospitality. Bowls and vases of spring
flowers lent their beauty and fragrance
t » the rooms, wherein the card tables were

James P. Alarkham was awarded the club
prize, a half-dozen sherbet glasses of dec-
orated crystal, and the souvenirs provided
for the guests, a pair of silk hose, was
given to Miss Aiarle Craig. Tempting re
freshments, consisting of mushroom salad,
lettuce, sandwiches, olives and apricot ice,
were served when the games were over.

tiful home Saturday afternoon. After the
usual routine of business two new mem-
bers, Mrs. Cox and Aliss Llllle Dean,

consisting of instrumental and vocal so-
los was rendered by various members.
Following the program a two-course
luncheon was served. Airs. Mathls then
uncovered a table on which were various
objects. The guests were allowed fi\e
minutes In which to look at the objects,
and the table was again covered. Then
each one was handed a paper on which
wore questions, the answers to be the ob-

eral days with friends and relatives in
Brackettville this week, returning home

Nursery—Rev. and Mrs. A. J. Bush, after
a vialt to relatives, left Wednesday for
their home in Dallas.
Mrs. Henry Pittnian and two children

Friday.
Airs. Louis Carpenter is visiting her
sons. Will aud Allen Carpetner, ln Hous-
ton.
Airs. John AlcCrabb snd two children of
Thc.msston spent Sunday with her mother,
Mra. Carrie Brown.

onade was served free. The evening was
very pleasantly spent. A goodly number
of books were presented to the libraries
of the two societies and also a liberal do-
nation made in money.
The Book Club met with Aliss Rose Ham-
ilton Saturday night. Quite a number of
the members were present. The Bible con-
test was the main feature of the evening
sixteen questions to be answered. Joe
Spot r won the prize, answering fifteen
correct. Refreshments were served. The
club will meet Alarch 30 with Airs. B. E.
Kellam.
Airs. Dora Conn of San Antonio waa
here this week.
Rev. J. D. Ballard of San Alarcos preach-
ed at the Baptist Church Saturday and
Sunday nights, lie left Alonday morning
for his home in San Alarcos.
Mr. and Airs. J. 11. MeCracklln of Ken-
dalia are visiting relatives hero.
Air. and Airs. Ben Brigharn left Monday
for their home at Jonah.
Airs. Tom Palmer of Jonah is visiting
here.

turned from a trip to Belmont.

visit to home folks in Seguin.

portant business meeting at the Kum
Right On Club rooms Tuesday afternoon
at 3 o'clock.
A ball by the Alisslon band was given
at tho opera house Friday night
Alessrs. Gulnn and Kenedy spent Sun-
day on the river.
Tho efforts of the visitation commit-
tees sent out by the various Sunday
schools on February 22 were rewarded
Sunday by a marked improvement in at-
tendance.

Dallas for a week.
Mrs. Frank Mason and children of Yoa-
kum are here with relatives.
Aliss Honora Sloma returned Thursday
from a visit to Shiner.
Miss Esther Fernau entertained the
1911 graduating class Thursday at the
home of her mother. Refreshments
were served and a most pleasant evening
enjoyed by the invited guests.
Thursday afternoon the friends of Miss
Nettie Clare Brown assembled at her
home and enjoyed a surprise party.
Misses Alamie and Alaggie Thulemeyer
entertained their classmates Wednesday
night.
