Rev. John Hierholzer
Rev. John Hierholzer -of Gon-
zales, father of Mrs. Ben Beh-
rens of this city, passed away on
Tv.ssday, January 21, at about 11
o'clock.
Preceeding his death he had
been a minister of the Gospel for
43 years. He had served as Dis-
trict Superintendent of the Metho-
dist Church for eleven years.
For six years he served as sup-
erintendent of the Brenham dis-
trict, and also served five years as
superintendent of the San Antonio
District. He was also a minister in
the Southern Conference of M. E.
Churches.
It was while he was serving in
San Antonio that he visited here
in Schulenburg several times each
year. He will be remembered by
many of the present congregation
of the local church.
At the time of his death he was
serving as pastor of the German
Methodist Church of Gonzales. »
Funeral services were heid on
Thursday morning at 9 o'clock in
Gonzales. From there his body was
carried to the Bracken Methodist
Church where services were held
at 2 o'clock in the afternoon. Rev.
L. J. Rode, present District Sup-
erintendent of the San Antonio
District, conducted the funeral ser-
vices.

daughters, Mrs. Ben Behrens of

Antonio and Miss Esther of Gon-
zales and one son, Rev. Elmer
Hierholzer of Denver, Colorado.
The Sticker extends sympathy
to the bereaved ones.
comes to the Cozy Theatre on Jan. j
23 and 24, Thursday and Friday of
this week, along with several
other leading screen attractions.
No novel has claimed and held
tlhe attention of the public for the
last three decades as has the im-
mortal word picturization of Jack
London's own adventures in the
treacherous Yukon gold region. A
determined and relentless young
person, London was easily im-
pressed, and feeling an onward
urge, responded to the call of the
wild and joined the trek to the
Klondike to prospect for gold. His
efforts were unawarded in gold,
itself, but the country was the in-
spiration for one of the greatest
novels of this century.
Clark Gable, movie idol of the i
feminine sex, is seen as a hand-
some swash-buckMng prospector,
who meets Loretta Young, a San
Francisco society beauty, on the
trail. Their codes conflict in the
beginning but gradually their dif-
ferences dimish and a romance en-
sues.
Jack Oakie provides the comedy
and Katherine DeMille, Reginald
Owen and Buck, new dog star, are
importantly cast.
An entirely different atmos-
phere is revealed in the Cozy's
screen attraction for Sunday and
Monday, Jaunary 26 and 27, "Fris-
co Kid" with James Cagney in the
leading role.
This film, acclaimed by popular
vote, as one of the greatest dra-
matic productions of the year, is
a marvelous picturization of the
thrilling pioneer days of old San
Francisco, w'hen the Barbary
Coast seethed with activity and
County Tax Assessor-Collector, not
to exceed $1,005.00. Judge Arnim
was also given not to exceed $600
a year for employment of a steno-
grapher with the understanding
that an additional amount will be
paid by the judge individually.
Other business transacted it as
follows:
Authorized county judge to i»-
sue receipts for canning equipment
donated county by the State Re-
lief Commission.
Called $8,000.00 in Road Dist. 1
bonds, issued April 10, 1918, for
payment at the State Treasurer's
office on April 10, 1936.
Authorized Commissioner T. Lee
Smith to purchase 12 culverts and
a steel bridge, the latter not to ex-
ceed a cost of $350.00.

day and an assistant to be paid
25 cents an hour and be selected
by Mr. Sula, to work with the
County Surveyor of Washington
County to survey the Fayette-
Washington County Line.
Ordered the County Judge to file
a WPA application for an agricul-
tural building, the county's share
of costs npt to exceed $1,446; site
is to be chosen by Commissioners
Court later.

Brauner to trade a Model "T" for
a Model "A" truck for a differ-
ence not to exceed $90.00.

Vrana as public weigher at Fla-
tonia.

tion for paying E. W. Meiners.

ing, assistants in the County
Agents Office, from January 7 to
Funeral services for Frank Ju-
rica, infant son of Mr. and Mrs.
Willje Jurica of this section, were
held at the St. Rose Catholic
Church on Monday evening, Jan.
20, at 3 o'clock. Rev. A. Frische

The day of sham and make-be-
lieve is rapidly passing and may
the day soon come when it shall
be gone. This age calls for a new
emphasis in Christanity it calls
us to flee from some of the be-
liefs and dogmas that have held
us down and confined us to our
narrow thinking and grasp in-
stead the sound and sane principle
of following Jesus as he lived.
Churches of today should not be (
known for thejr belief but for
their service to the world and to
humanity. Let us, therefore, free I
oui'selves and ouv churches fyom
evil narrowness and launch out on
a program of Right Living, True
Loving and Sacrificial Serving
among the people with whom we
live and whom we serve. ^
The Baptist Church wants to; j|
meet the pressing needs of Schu-
lenburg in the spirit of Jesus, the
servant.
You are always welcome at every
service, regardless of belief, station
drill,' in life or church affiliation.
