CHAPTER 542 S.B. No. 553 1 AN ACT 2 relating to certain high school students serving as early voting 3 clerks in an election. 4 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: 5 SECTION 1. Section 25.087, Education Code, is amended by 6 adding Subsections (b-1) and (e) and amending Subsection (d) to 7 read as follows: 8 (b-1) A school district may adopt a policy excusing a 9 student from attending school for service as a student early voting 10 clerk in an election. 11 (d) A student whose absence is excused under Subsection (b), 12 (b-I) , (b-2), or (c) may not be penalized for that absence and shall 13 be counted as if the student attended school for purposes of 14 calculating the average daily attendance of students in the school 15 district. A student whose absence is excused under Subsection (b),
16 (b-l), [e] (b-2), or (c) shall be allowed a reasonable time to make 17 up school work missed on those days. If the student satisfactorily 18 completes the school work, the day of absence shall be counted as a 19 day of compulsory attendance. 20 (e) A school district may excuse a student for the purposes 21 provided by Subsections (b)(1)(E) and (b-l) for a maximum of two 22 days in a school year. 23 SECTION 2. Section 33.092, Education Code, is amended to 24 read as follows:
