Choral Presentation of Appreciation
The Nocona High School Performance CHoir entertained the Nocona School Board with song
Wednesday night as part of School Board Appreciation Month.
NEDC Notes
By James Yohe
NEDC executive director
We have several projects and
efforts underway to assist eco-
nomic development within
Nocona. Several revolve around
tourism. There are others that
are more generic and still others
that will take additional time to
develop and mature.
One of the first we've com-
pleted is a letter that is being
sent to each of the Nocona High
School Alumni. There is no
doubt that people with an
already established connection
to Nocona would have a better
tendency to stay and commit to
the community rather than a
business looking for the next,
best community monetary
incentive package.
Here is some of what we
asked of our former students:
"Have you ever considered
bringing your talents and expe-
rience back home to Nocona?
"Maybe your children are
just reaching school age and you
remember the benefits of small
community schools. Maybe
some of you are just tired of the
congested traffic, light-speed
pace and isolation of city living.
Or maybe some of you may be
reaching retirement. Whatever
your circumstances...
Nocona would like you to
consider coming home!
"There are several opportuni-
ties to benefit your home com-
munity and fulfill those long
delayed passions and dreams.
What have you always wanted
to do? Has the thought of own-
ing and operating a chocolate
shop, establishing a web-based
business or creating a successful
small business been a long
delayed dream? Do you want to
get back to ranch life or start an
orchard or vineyard?
"There is an effort underway
to revitalize Nocona and
improve its opportunities for
tourism, small business and
web-based business. For rural
communities like Nocona, the
key is talented, innovative peo-
ple with a heart for the culture
and history of our community.
Having graduates like yourself,
and your family, return is an
effective opportunity to increase
economic growth and enhance
the quality of life for everyone
in Nocona.
"Nocona stands on the verge
of a great opportunity, a renais-
sance if you will, and we would
like our alumni friends and
neighbors to share in Nocona's
bright future.
We look forward to hearing
from you, including any sugges-
tions or ideas to benefit our
community. Check out our new
web site at www.nocona.org."
Of course these opportunities
also apply to those who have
already chosen Nocona as
home. If you have any thoughts
or visions about your future
Nocona please call me at 825-
3150.

Sheriff release sex offender roster
Water
Continued from Page 1
for consideration.
"Each county would have the
same representation," Comm.
Rankin told the court.
Additionally, some existing
areas - such as incorporated
cities - could be cut out of the
GCD if that was the desire of
that county.
In any case, the final decision
on creating a GCD would rest
not with the commissioner's
courts, but with the voters.
Voters will be asked to vote
"yes" or "no" on the creation of
the GCD, and would also vote
"yes" or "no" on approving the
ability to assess ad valorem
taxes.
With Montague County on
board in everything but a final
vote, what is left is to figure out
the details, rally Legislative sup-
port in Austin and hope an effort
by a Tarrant County legi slator to
force the four counties into a 13
county mega-GCD can be
thwarted.
"I don't know why he includ-
ed us in it without even bother-
ing to ask the counties if they
were interested," Rankin
observed.
There are 32 registered "Sex
Offenders" currently residing in
Montague County, according to
Chief Deputy Jim Wright. This
number excludes those residing
in the cities of Nocona, Saint Jo,
Sunset and Bowie.
Registered Sex Offenders are
required by state law to provide
their residence address, place of
employment and vehicle type
and registration within 10 days
of any such change.
Warrants of arrest are issued
any time one of these offenders
fails to register annually, or fails
to report their status changes as
required by law.
Chief Wright released the
following list of current listed
Sex Offenders who registered
their residence in rural
