lew sites or ear j voting
By Tracy R. Mesler
MONTAGUE - By the time
early voting rolls around for the
November General Election,
Montague County voters will
have a different place to cast
their ballots, most likely four
different places to cast their
early ballots.
Monday County Clerk
Glenda Henson approached the
court about relocating the early
voting from within her office to
the first floor of the courthouse
ill hopes of alleviating over-
crowded conditions.
And while that met with
court approval, the commission-
ers wanted to revisit a topic first
brought up following the March
Primary elections by Nocona
News Publisher Linda Mesler -
the creation of satellite early
voting sites in Bowie, Nocona
and Saint Jo.
Commissioners agreed that
things were too cramped to hold
early voting in the county
clerk's offices - especially since
she was having a third "public
access computer terminal"
installed to allow the public to
research county records.
The court approved moving
early voting to the first floor of
the courthouse - that will allow
Mrs. Henson to start the lengthy
pre-clearance process with the
Voting Rights Division of the
U.S. Justice Department.
Commissioners asked her to
"put back on the agenda" the
concept of satellite early voting
sites in the county's three major
towns. Commissioners asked
her to also project the additional
election judge salaries and other
expenses necessary for the satel-
lite early voting offices.
Mrs. Henson reminded the
court that while they expressed
endorsement of the idea, they
still needed to work out details
such as location, staffing and
budget to pay for the election
judges needed for each site.
