Librarian
Nocona Public Library is
very busy this time of the
year.
The Friends of the
Library are having their
annual fund raisers. This
year they have a tee shirt
sale. Sales will begin on Oct.
18 and run through Nov. 6.
The design on the shirts will
be "If I only had a book"
with a scarecrow from the
Wizard of Oz or a snowman
design. Come by the library
to order your shirt.
The other fund raiser is
the annual book sale. The
sale will be Oct. 24 through
Nov. 6. All proceeds will go
to the children's story time
next summer and a handicap
door opener. Please stop and
help support the library.
On Dec. 10 and 11 the
library will be offering free
computer classes through the
Texas State Library. There
will be four classes, begin-
ning with a class for begin-
ners. Each class will be lim-
ited to the first 15 persons to
enroll. Laptops and all the
materials needed will be pro-
vided. You must come to the
library to enroll.
Region 9 would like to
start an ESL class in January
at the library. Please stop by
the library to sign up those
interested in taking the class.
We need to know how many
are interested in this class.
Tiffany Lee from Region
9 will be here on Friday,
Nov. 2 for an introduction on
GED classes. If you are
interested in this class you
must be at the library by 9:15
a.m. on Friday.
Don't know what to get
that special someone for
Christmas? Coming soon to
the Nocona Public Library
you will be able to buy art
from members of The
Chisholm Trail Artist
Association.
Come to the library and
see the display of beautiful
dolls and children's books.
Thank you Carol Cecil for
sharing your collection with
us. If you have a collection
of something unusual or spe-
cial, bring it to the library for
us to display in our display
case. We would love for you
to share it with us.
Please check your houses,
cars, bookshelves, etc., for
any books that may need to
be returned to the library.
We appreciate your help in
making sure the library
books are returned in a time-
ly manner for patrons to
enjoy. Also, please let us
know about any update that
we might need to make to
your contact information
when you come in to check
out books.
The Book Club selection
for November is "The
Yellow Bird" by Kevin
Powers. The club meeting
will be Nov. 15 at 6:30 p.m.
at the Library. Everyone is
welcome to join.
Story Time for the chil-
dren is each Thursday at 10
a.m. If you would like to vol-
unteer to read to the children
during our story time please
call the library at 825-6373.
There will be Friends of
the Library meeting at the
library at noon Nov. 1.

The Montague County
Child Welfare Board pro-
vides Christmas presents
every year to over 100
Montague County abused
and neglected children who
comes to our attention
directly or through the Texas
Child Protective Services.
Presently there are 110
children on the list, with
each child submitting a list
of specific items they want
for Christmas. Our Board
members and volunteers
shop directly for these
items, and wrap them for
the kids for Christmas.
Without this, these kids
would get little or no
Christmas, and so this is our
attempt to provide at least
some level of normalcy to
their lives. They often ask
for basic needs shoes,
clothing, something for their
parents or a brother or sister,
and usually a small toy.
We usually plan to spend
a set amount on each child,
based on the age of the
child. For example, ages 0 to
3 years receive gifts totaling
$60; ages 4 to 7 gifts of

Unfortunately, this year
many of our events were
rained out at the Western
Heritage Roundup in Bowie,
which provides us half of our
annual needed funds.
Since we are experiencing
such a shortfall this year,
rather than cut back on what
we can do for these kids, we
ask you if you would adopt a
child and provide the funds
we need to shop for their
Christmas wishes.
Any help you can provide
would be greatly appreciat-
ed, and would play a signifi-
cant part in making a kid feel
loved and wanted at
Christmas.
Please contact us at mon-
taguechildren@gmail.com
or call Clint Brown,
Chairman, at 817/360-0317
and let us know if you can
help.
