Indians ramage over MijMMLgs
Hill, Fenoglio, Jennings race past CV
By Tracy R. Mesler
Slowly, methodically the
Nocona Indians choked the
life out of the City View
Mustangs Friday night while
pounding out a 42-9 District
5-AA D2 victory.
The Indians (7-0, 2-0) did
not put up gaudy numbers
this week. They just took
care of business as they pre-
pare for back-to-back show-
downs with district co-lead-
ers Holliday (5-2, 2-0), at
Holliday Friday night, fol-
lowed by the final home
game of the season against
Jacksboro (6-1, 2-0).
City View presented a
slightly different look this
season as senior transfer
quarterback Kent Wingfield
(21-117-0) helped balance
the Mustang attack featuring
super soph D.J. Coursey
who found the Indians more
than ready for his speed.
Except for one kick off
Coursey was stymied held to
just 12 yards on 7 carries.
Nocona struggled to find
its offensive rhythm its first
two series. When Hayden
Hill set the tribe up at the
Mustang 36, the tribe took
just four plays to punch the
ball into the end zone on a 10
yard Tate Fenoglio (21-227-
2) burst around right end.
Raul Anaya's kick made the
Come here! . . .
tally 7-5.
City View pounded out a
pair of first downs before
being forced to punt, and
Bryce Dingier (7-50-0)
exploded for 20 yards. Hill
(1-6-13-0-0) hit Edward
Cardoza for a sideline toe-
tap for 13. Fenoglio, and
Dingier went 8 and 11 yards
respectively before Fenoglio
finished off the 77 yard drive
with runs of 19, 3 and 4.
Fenoglio then lateralled to
John Jennings for the two
point conversion and a 15-0
lead.
Nocona's next possession
died at their own 36 when
Dingier was stripped of the
ball. The Mustangs threat-
ened to really make a game
of it converting a fourth and
1 at the Indian 32. But on
second and four from the 11,
Wingfield's pitch was
behind Coursey, and Hill
swooped in, plucked the orb
from the turf and then
stunned the City View side-
lines as he outraced the
speedy Coursey to the end
zone 73 yards away.
Fenoglio's two point conver-
sion allowed the Indians a
sigh of relief leading 23-0 at
the half.
When the Mustangs
buried the Indians at the 8
early in the third quarter, the
tribe mounted a ground gob-
bling assault - Fenoglio for
26 and 17 yards; Jennings
for 4; Hill for 3; Fenoglio for
26 and Dingier for 6 before
Hill carried the ball into the
end zone from 11 yards out.
Anaya's kick gave Nocona a
30-0 lead and control of the
district contest.
Big boot . . .
But Coursey got every-
one's attention as he took the
ensuing kickoff 73 yards to
the end zone to cut the
advantage of 30-7.
The teams exchanged
possessions until starting
from their 30 Nocona went
backwards as Hill was
sacked twice for losses of 15
and 5 yards. When Tyler
Gay mishandled the punt
snap, he fell on the ball in
the end zone for a safety as
the lead was cut to 30-9.
Couresy was stripped of
the ball at the Indian 40 set-
ting up dramatics courtesy of
the Indian reserves.
After Fenoglio gouged
out 27 and 7 yards, Jennings
was sent into the game - and
immediately burst 41 yards
over left tackle for the score
and a 36-9 lead.
When Anaya recovered
his pop-up kickoff at the
City View 45 it set up a
repeat performance by
Jennings (5-103-2) who
