The library staff would
like to invite everyone to
come by and see the display
of beautiful Kachina dolls
belonging to Ella Williams.
The Hopi Indians
believed that many years ago
when crops had been poor
and the tribe was almost
starving, supernatural beings
called Kachinas came to
them from distant moun-
tains. These beings brought
gifts of food and other neces-
sities which saved many
lives. Although other tribes
have Kachinas, those of the
Hopi seem most important
and best known.
Thank you, Ella, for read-
ing to the children on Feb. 4.
This Thursday, Feb. 11,
Vicki Marshall will be read-
ing. Story time is from 10-
10:30. Volunteers are need-
ed to read to the children. If
you are interested, please
call the library at 825-6373.
Home-schooled children are
encouraged to volunteer.
If you are interested in
receiving your GEO, please
stop by the library and talk to
Library Director Alicia
Walker.

SAINT JO - Montague
County politics are back in
the news again with the
upcoming primaries sched-
uled for March 2nd.
Early voting will extend
from Feb. 16 through Feb.
26. The Montague County
property owners Association
and Upper Clear Creek
Range and Wildlife
Management Association
will host a "Meet the
Candidates Night" to present
candidates seeking the vari-
ous county offices. As
always, knowing the candi-
dates is important to both
you and Montague County.
Mark your calendar.
"Meet the Candidates
Night" will be held
Thursday, Feb. 18, from 7 to
9 p.m. at the Saint Jo High
School Domed Gymnasium,
one block south of the Dairy
Queen.
This will be your opportu-
nity to meet candidates run-
ning for county offices, hear
reasons why they want to
represent you and to ask
them questions concerning
issues of interest to you.
Voting is a privilege not
available in many parts of
the world. Use this as an
opportunity to make yourself
heard in the March 2nd
Primary and November
General elections.
Think about what just
happened in Massachusetts
on Jan. 19 when St. Sen.
Scott Brown became U.S.
Sen. Scott Brown. It proves
once again your votes do
count.
Thank You
The family of Keith Miller would like to express
our deep appreciation to everyone for your kindness
and comfort during our loss.
Thank you for the visits, calls, cards, food, flow-
ers and donations to various charities.
Most of all, thank you for keeping us in your
thoughts and prayers.

GAINESVILLE — A
new training course for
boaters who would like to be
able to troubleshoot and do
basic repairs on their own
marine motors, as well as
others seeking a new job
skill, will begin at North
Central Texas College on
March 1.
The course is offered
through the NCTC Division
of Lifelong Learning in part-
nership with North Texas
Marine. It will focus on
teaching maintenance and
repair skills for two-stroke
and four-stroke outboard
marine engines.
Classes will meet on
Monday and Wednesday
evenings through July 7
from 6 to 10 p.m. at the
Career & Technology Center
on the NCTC Gainesville
campus. Cost of enrolling is
$1,200 with a payment plan
available. The course fee
includes a tool kit and text-
book.
"This is a great entry-
level course in a field that is
wide open in this area," said
Kenny Smith, NCTC voca-
tional training coordinator.
"We are uniquely situated in
a part of Texas that is very
active in marine sports and
activities, from jet skis to
outboard motors."
Phil Krum, a trained tech-
nician at North Texas
Marine with many years of
experience, will be teaching
the course.
Krum said the course will
not only prepare those
enrolling to maintain and do
upkeep on their personal
marine motors but also serve
as basic preparation for those
who may be interested in
entry-level employment as a
marine motor technician.
He added that those suc-
cessfully completing the
course will have the skills
required to enter into a spe-
cialized dealership school
for marine technicians.
"With our close proximity
to so many lakes in the North
Texas and Texoma area,
boats are big business,"
Smith said. "There are a lot
of them out there, and like all
mechanical things, all of
them eventually need service
work. This course is perfect
for both recreational boaters
and those who may be want-
ing to prepare for a new
vocation."
