On the first day of school, the kids are excted and some of the parents are even more excited as the students return to
class as the summer break comes to an end.

Sheriffs deputies
responded to 61 calls for
service the week of Aug. 16
through 22 including four
disturbances, 16 reports of
stray livestock and two
requests for agency assis-
tance.
On Aug. 16 copper water
heater tubing was reported
stolen off FM 1125 outside
of Bowie.
Also that day copper wire
was reported stolen from a
well along with an electric
fence monitor off U.S. Hwy,
82 in Ringgold.
On Aug. 18 a complaint
of indecent contact between
a 29-year-old female who
was reported to be kissing
and cuddling with a 15-year-
old male, was reported to
have occurred at CR 3225
outside of Decatur. The case
was referred to Wise
County.
A sign and doors were
spray painted along East
Front Street in Sunset on
Aug. 18.
A vehicle window was
busted out accidentally on
Procter Lane in Sunset on
Aug. 18.
A report of sexual assault
of a child, a 13-year-old
female, was made involving
an incident in Wise County
on Aug. 21. It was referred
to Wise County.
A building was burglar-
ized on Jerry Walker Road
on Aug. 22. A laptop, a
buffer and 500-feet of cop-
per wire were reported
stolen.

MONTAGUE - Eight
felony defendants entered
guilty pleas in 97th District
Court this week.
Curtis Don Durham Jr.,
39, of Bellevue was sen-
tenced to five years in prison
after agreeing to the motion
to revoke his probation for
driving while intoxicated-
third offense.
Amber LeAnn
McGowan, 24, of Bowie,
received five years probation
and was ordered to pay a
$500 fine after pleading
guilty to possession of a con-
trolled substance.
Randy Lee McBride, 34,
of Bowie, was sentenced to
254 days in State Jail after
agreeing to a motion to
revoke his probation for bur-
glary of a building.
Thelbert W. Pittman of
Montague was sentenced to
six sentences of 16 months
each in State Jail for criminal
mischief. He also was sen-
tenced to 16 months in State
Jail after pleading to evading
arrest.
Monte Joe Martin, 46, of
Martindale was sentenced to
180 days in State Jail after
pleading to burglary of a
building.
Kristi Dale Wilt, 34, of
Chico was sentenced to two
years State Jail time after
agreeing to a motion to
revoke probation on a charge
of possession of a controlled
substances.
John Enoch Wiggins III,
23, of Gainesville was sen-
tenced to 180 days State Jail
time after agreeing to a
motion to revoke his proba-
tion for possession of a con-
trolled substance.
And William Todd
Gatlin, 38, of Bowie
received five years probation
after pleading guilty to pos-
session of a controlled sub-
stance.

of Tax Revenue
Increase
The Montague County conducted public hearings on August 23, 2010 and September 2, 2010 on a
proposal to increase the total tax revenues of the Montague County from properties on the tax roll in the
preceding year by 6.415094 percent.
The total tax revenue raised last year at last year's tax rate of 0.437900 for each SI 00 of taxable value
was $4,877,779.16.
The total tax revenue proposed to be raised this year at the proposed tax rate of 0.451200 for each $100
of taxable value, excluding tax revenue to be raised from new property added to the tax roll this year, is
$5,152,495.74.
The total tax revenue proposed to be raised this year at the proposed tax rate of 0.451200 for each $100
of taxable value, including tax revenue to be raised from new property added to the tax roll this year, is
$5,257,338.41.
The Montague County Commissioner's Court is scheduled to vote on the tax rate that will result in that
tax increase at a public meeting to be held on September 16, 2010 at County Courtroom, 101 E Franklin

MONTAGUE - The
Montague County Grand
Jury returned 21 felony
indictments last week, two of
which were "sealed" pend-
ing the arrest and arraign-
ment of the defendants.
Kristopher Ray Morgan,
24, of Nocona, was indicted
for the Nov. 18, 2009,
offense of arson. Bond was
set at $5,000.
Patricio Salgado Ramos,
32, of Nocona, was indicted
for the Aug. 22, 2009,
offense of felony driving
while intoxicated. His bond
was set at $10,000.
Richie Karl Romine, 21,
of Nocona, was indicted for
the March 24, 2010, offense
of burglary of a building
belonging to Lynn Lierly.
Romine is accused to break-
ing into a freezer at the
NISD Secondary Campus
and attempting to steal food.
His bond was set at $50,000.
Brian Lee Swearingin, 35,
of Nocona, was indicted for
the Jan. 4 offense of burglary
of a habitation belonging to
Gayle Storey. His bond was
set at $30,000. Swearingin
was the subject of an exten-
sive chase leading from the
west side of Lake Nocona,
across back roads to
Belcherville and then south
a
the
towards Bowie before elud-
ing officers, who had
detailed description of
suspect.
Dennis James Freeman,
42, of Iowa Park was indict-
ed for the April 30 unautho-
rized use of a vehicle
belonging to Michael S.
Stieber. Bond was set at
$3,000.
Oscar Raymond
Cannady, 18, of Bowie, was
indicted for the Jan. 16
offense of possession of a
controlled substance. His
bond was set at $3,500.
Bred Allen Crawford, 24,
of Bowie was indicted on
two charges, both occurring
on Dec. 5: possession of a
controlled substance, bond
was set at $50,000; and
endangering a child, bond
was set at $15,000.
Jessica Renee Martinez,
27, of Brownfield, was
indicted for the Jan. 4, 2009,
offense of driving while
intoxicated with child pas-
senger. Her bond was set at
$10,000.
Dustin James Sutton, 20,
of Bowie, was indicted for
the Nov. 1, 2008, offense of
evading arrest. His bond was
set at $1,500.
