ward to her home in Heaven.
We are sure she found
Heaven more beautiful than her
favorite place, Hawaii, and
greeted the Lord with a warm,
"Aloha!"
Surely the Spirit of Christ has
been reflected by her life. She
certainly raised the bar for her
family and friends in her exam-
ple of Christian living. We
know she would not want us
burdened with grief and sorrow,
but rather comforted with
remembered joy. She is not lost
to us, as we know where she is.
A celebration of her life was
conducted at Bethel Baptist
Church in Nocona on Sunday,
Aug. 31, 2008. Revs. Cass
Schrieb and Dale Berry officiat-
ed. Pallbearers were Randy
Brown, Frank Brown, Chase
Cardwell, Tyler Cardwell,

Burial followed at Molsbee MO to begin adventures in Motherin on 15th
Chapel Cemetery where she was
Surrounded by her loved
ones, Mrs. Shirley Sue (Rich)
Brown was graciously ushered
into eternal life on August 28,
2008.
Born Jan. 4, 1938, to Leon
"Son" and Alma (Johnson)
Rich, Shirley accepted the
Lord's calling and accepted
Him as her savior at the age of
12. She faithfully and joyfully
served Him from that day for-
ward.
Shirley was proud to be a
part of Nocona High School's
Class of 1956 and enthusiasti-
cally coordinated and hosted
many homecoming get-togeth-
ers for her classmates. Though
she did not officially graduate
from NHS she "quit-uated" in
1953 to become the devoted
wife of Billy E. Brown and lov-
ing mother to their three chil-
dren. Her tireless positivity and
contagious smile enabled her to
live in 59 homes across the
country in their first 14 years of
marriage before settling in
Buena Park, Calif. For 27 years.
Shirley worked those 27
years at Fiddler's Three
Restaurant in Lakewood, Calif.
Shirley never met a stranger and
many of her regular customers,
known as Shirley's Breakfast
Club, became personal friends
that she kept in contact with
long after retiring. All that time,
she also directed the Sunday
school program for pre-school-
ers at Calvary Baptist Church in
Bellfower, Calif.
When Billy retired, they
returned to Nocona in 1994.
They attended Bible Baptist
Church and have been members
of Bethel Baptist Church for
eight years.
Shirley was diagnosed with
breast cancer in 2003. Though
fearlessly fighting the devastat-
ing disease for five years she
never complained and continued
to serve in VBS, sang in the
choir and was a very efficient
fundraiser for her church. As a
supporter for the Relay for Life
Shirley was a champion
fundraiser for the American
Cancer Society.
An avid scrap booker Shirley
documented her life in over 100
photo albums. She was also a
member of the Maids and
Matrons Club, Nocona's Cancer
Support Group and was a Bunco
Babe.
Shirley courageously accept-
ed the Lord's desire to bring her
home to Him.
Though we feel her life was
too brief, we know she willingly
and gratefully took the Lord's
hand when she heard Him call.
She certainly lived the abundant
life that Jesus came to give
(John 10:10), yet looked for-
baptized 58 years earlier. She
requested that donations be
made to the Molsbee Chapel
Cemetery Foundation or the
American Cancer Society in lieu
of flowers.
Shirley is survived by her
husband of 55 years, Billy E.
Brown of Nocona; son Randall
Ray and his wife Susan Brown
of Boise, Id.; daughters Carla
Lynn of Lake Elsinore, Calif.,
Pamela Denise and husband
Frank of Nampa, Id.; sister and
best friend Sharon Barnett and
husband Clayton of Long
Beach, Calif.; grandchildren,
Christina, Mark, Shane, Tyler,
Chase, Casey, Cameron and
Sarah; and great-grandchildren
Trevor, Jordan Rae, Allyssa and
Hanah Bell.
The 2008-09 MOPS year
will focus its theme around the
"Adventures of Mothering," or
the ups and downs a mother of
young children faces.
MOPS stands for Mothers of
Preschoolers, which qualifies
pregnant moms, first-time or
experienced moms, single or
married, just as long as she has
at least one child from infant to
kindergarten.
This year brings several
changes. First, MOPS headquar-
ters will now be at Bethel
Baptist at 310 7th Street.
We are also returning to our
monthly meetings every 3rd
Monday, from 6-8 p.m. All chil-
dren from 3 months to kinder-
garten age are welcome and
attend their own age-appropriate
classes while moms meet
together in the fellowship hall
for a meal and fellowship.
Our meeting will begin at
5:30 for registration on
September 15. Dues are set at
$80 for the year and can be paid
all at once, in which case a $10
discount is honored. Other pay-
ment alternatives include paying
twice a year at $40 each semes-
ter, or paying per meeting at
$10.
Mothers new to MOPS are
invited to come check it out and
get your initial meeting FREE!
Our first meeting will be full
of adventures! Moms will have
fun finding out who their table
sisters will be, play games, and
enjoy a meal of appetizers.
Children will also be fed a kid-
friendly meal.
For anyone who is new to the
area, this is a perfect opportuni-
ty to meet other moms! Come
meet the new leaders, as well as
some new mentors.
For further questions, please
contact MOPS Co-coordinators,
Brandi Richardson at 825-4659
or Ashley Herchman at 366-
5605.
