The Nocona Band
Boosters are taking orders
for Nocona-opoly, the board
game of Nocona as they
proudly announced "Game
On!"
Over the past several
months, the Boosters have
been selling spaces on the
board to local businesses and
individuals. Now the board
game has gone into produc-
tion with delivery expected
in the last half of March.
"We could not have
achieved our production goal
without you and other like
minded people of Nocona,"
said Dixie Jackson, one of
the Band Boosters members
and spearhead behind the
fund raising project.
The games are $40 each.
You can place your order
with any member of the
Band Boosters, or pick up
forms from the High School
or at various locations
around town.
"Please thank our spon-
sors from Andrew Herrera
and the Nocona Indian
Marching Band," asked
Jackson.
"We will schedule a silent
auction for sale of the origi-
nal artwork in conjunction
with LG Lemons Studio later
in the spring," he added.
Mass gatherings to meet §a etr codes
By Tracy Mesler
MONTAGUE - The
Montague County
Commissioners Court took
steps Monday to ensure that
mass outdoor gatherings,
such as Rednecks with
Paychecks comply with vari-
ous provisions of the Texas
Life Safety Code.
The county has had
numerous questions about
safety concerns with such
large mass gatherings.
Monday the court met
with Sheriff Paul
Cunningham to discuss pass-
ing a resolution requiring
pre-inspection of the event
site to be in compliance with
the Texas Life Safety Code.
Nocona Fire Chief Rusty
Henley was in attendance
explaining he was there to
"make sure you don't
appoint a county fire mar-
shal," which the court was
not going to address.
"I'm not against rednecks
with Paychecks," County
Judge Tommie Sappington
said to start the conversation,
"because they bring people
into the county from all four
directions and they buy
everything off all the
shelves."
The concern is state
requirements that the county
have requirements that such
mass gatherings follow state
law in regards to on-site
access for emergency vehi-
cles, and that any structures,
permanent or temporary,
meet the requirements of the
State Fire Code.
Sheriff Cunningham and
Henley both told the court
that reading the law did not
fully answer questions of
how the county was to apply
the law. Judge Sappington
asked the two men to consult
the State Fire Marshal's
Office while the court
recessed its meeting.
Sheri s Log
The two returned to tell
the court that the State Fire
Marshal's Office would pro-
vide an inspector, removing
one of the court's concerns,
"to remove personalities
from the inspection".
With RNWP set for his
Spring Break event March
14-17, a pre-event inspection
must take place within 45
days prior to the event. "We
want, they (RNPC) want it to
be safe," the county judge
said following the meeting.
The inspection will help
ensure the safety of the thou-
sands who will flock to the
off-road and mud-racing
event with live music and
'spring fling' atmosphere.
