Air transportation . . .
A Ringgold VFD fire truck helps mark where the Air Evac helicopter is not to land Monday as it prepares to extract
a victim from a violent head-on collision on U.S. hwy. 82 three miles east of that community.

breaks as Iselin did the same.
"They both left a lot of
tread," Trooper Cunningham
commented, adding the sud-
den decrease in speed helped
prevent the accident from
being tragic.
The two vehicles collided
demolishing both vehicles
and strewing wreckage
across the highway.
The forced of the colli-
sion left the Buck SUV sit-
ting cross-ways in the east
bound lane and Burch's
maroon pickup sitting cross-
ways in the westbound lane
and paved shoulder. All but
the south side shoulder was
blocked by the wreckage.
Others motorists who
stopped to render aid dis-
gustedly commented that
many other passing
motorists simply went
around the wreckage and did
not stop to render aid to the
three occupants and those
did try to stop and assist.
Two ambulances from
Nocona General Hospital,
fire rescue units from both
Ringgold and Nocona Rural
Volunteer Fire Departments,
sheriffs deputies, DPS units
from both Montague and
Clay Counties and Texas
Department of
Transportation personnel
were sent to control traffic.
Both west bound traffic
was diverted off Hwy. 82 to
FM 1816 and east bound
traffic was sent south on
U.S. Hwy. 81 to connect
with FM 1806 to circumvent
the wreckage.
Airbags in both vehicles
deployed helping limit the
severity of the injuries.
Burch was assisted from
his truck as passersby held a
tarp to shield the restaurant
owner from the hot, summer
sun. He was transported to
Nocona General and then on
to a Denton hospital for sur-
gery Tuesday morning.
Iselin, the driver of the
mini-van, stated he was
uninjured and declined med-
ical attention. But his pas-
senger, Ms. Williams, was
not so lucky.
After firemen used the
Jaws to cut away both the
back passenger door and
post. She was stabilized at
the scene by Nocona general
paramedics for a probably
broken leg and other injuries
and then was airlifted via Air
Evac to Wichita General
Hospital. The helicopter
muscled its way into the face
of a 30 mile per hour near-
gale to land in the middle of
the highway immediately
west of the accident scene.
Two wreckers had to be
summoned to the scene to
load the two vehicles as
operators cleared the road-
way of the debris. The high-
way was reopened shortly
before 5 Monday evening.
