Sheriff
7/17—Ai 10:31 a.m., Gaines
County Sheriff's officers
investigated an industrial accident
that apparently occurred east of
Seminole.
According to reports, John H.
Dyck had been working with some
pipe when the pipe slipped, causing
injury.
Dyck went to a residence nearby
seeking help, and sheriff's officials
and Seminole EMS were called.
Dyck was taken to Seminole
Memorial Hospital by EMS
ambulance, where he was treated for
his injuries.
7/18—At 7:38 a.m.. Sheriff's
officers received a report ofa horse
being injured 1 l-12milcssouthwest
of Seminole in a field on the north
side of the road.
Investigation led officers to two
New Mexico men, whose horse had
apparently gotten away from them
and had caused approximately S50
worth of damage to a fence. The
men repaired the fence, and then
took the horse to receive treatment
for undetermined injuries.
7/18—At 8:31 a.m„ Sheriff's
officers were called to Sundown
Well Service 10 miles west and one
mile south of Seminole, to
t investigate the theft of various tods.
Value of the tools was undetermined
as of presstime, and investigation
was continuing.

7/17—At 9 a.m., Seminole police
were called to the 400 block of
Northeast Avenue C, where a
complainant told them a person or
persons unknown had attempted to
enter the residence and were unable
to do so. The incident had
apparently occurred between
Saturday and Monday.
Nothing was reportedly missing
from the residence.
7/18—At 7:15 p.m., police were
called to the 200 block of Northwest
Avenue H, where two flush-
mounted speakers were reportedly
stolen from an unlocked vehicle.
A complainant told police that
the speakers were valued at $50
each and that a person or persons
unknown had also apparently tried
to remove an equalizer, but were
unable to do so.
Accidents
7/18-At 2:10 p.m., Seminole
police were called to a two-vehicle
accident on Northwest 8th Street in
the parking area of the Medical and
Surgical Clinic.
According to reports, a 1985
Freightliner tractor-trailer rig.
driven by David Chamberlain. 32.
of Odessa and owned by Mission
Petroleum of Odessa, was parked
in front of the clinic at an angle and
partially on the sidewalk to keep the
rear of the vehicle out of the
roadway.
An Oldsmobile driven by Louis
Lerma, 26, of 708 Magnolia, was
parked in the space just south of the
truck.
The truck driver started to back
out, and when the wheel came off
the sidewalk, the back right of the
trailer struck the left back quarter
of the Oldsmobile.
Minor damage was reported to
both vehicles.

fire just before 7 a.m. at the
intersection of Southwest 6th Street
and the Hobbs Highway.

Firemen went to an oilfield pit fire
12-13 miles southwest of Seminole
between 4:30 and 5:00 p.m.

7/17—At 3:27 pm, EMS
transferred a patient from
Seminole Nursing Center (SNC)
to Yoakum County Hospital in

7/18-At 5:36 pm, EMS was
called to the 300 block of N.E. F
to assist officers. No transport.
7/19—At 5:56 pm, EMS was
called to the 400 block of S.W.
K, sick call with no transport.
7/20~At 8:50 am, EMS was
called to the 100 block of S.E. E
to check on a morning call
patient. No transport.
Three entities
set meetings
on Monday
Three governmental entities will
meet in Seminole this week, with all
three set for Monday.
Gaines County Commissioners
will meet in special session at 10
a.m. Monday to receive the County
Treasurer's Report, and discuss
surplus equipment, election judges,
right-of way and the proposed
budget, particularly pertaining to
amendments and transfers.
At7 p.m. Monday, the Seminole
City Council will meet in special
session to present a certificate of
appreciation to the Seminole Little
Dribbler organization, consider
current year and future water and
sewer projects, consider the 1990
tax rate and conduct a budget work
session, hearing from the public
works and utilities department. In
addition, an executive session
concerning personnel will take
place.
At 7:30 p.m. Monday, the
Seminole Hospital Board will hold
a called meeting to continue work
and study on the 1990-91 proposed
budget and review applications
received for the position of
administrator.

According to the American Cancer Socie-
ty, one out of ten women will develop
breast cancer sometime in her lifetime. It is
currently estimated
that over 37,000 women die each year as a result of breast cancer.
Ninety percent of breast cancers are diagnosed by women or their physicians fin-
ding a lump in the breast. Wc in who are diagnosed with a lump large enough to
feel have a 50 percent five year survival rate. A woman who is diagnosed as having
breast cancer by mammography, before a lump can be felt, has a 97% five year sur-
vival rate and a 90% 10 year survival rate. (The cost Is only )
A mammogram can detect a cancer this small,• even before it can be felt.

discussion on shortening the time
of the sale to two hours instead of
five took place. No final decision
was made.
Discussion of an All-School
Reunion around the July 4 holiday
also took place, and a committee
will be appointed to look into that
possibility and chamber's part in
such a reunion. *-
Dr. James Johnson and Alfred
Johnson with Texas Communication
and Research Consultants made a
presentation to the board concerning
working with small businesses and
making custom presentations for
those businesses, working through
the chamber. The board made no
final decision on the matter, but will
discuss it at further meetings.
The annual chamber teacher
coffee was set for 8 a.m. Aug. 24 at
the high school activity center and
a joint meeting of the board and the
Ag-Oil Committee of the chamber
to begin planning the annual Ag-
Oil Day was set for noon next
Wednesday at the chamber office.
