Lord . dtnund Fitzmauriee is bro-
ther to the present Marquis of Lans-
downe, and the ancestor whose life
he has begun writing was that fa-
mous Lord Shelburne, Minister to
George III. ot obstinate memory,
and the man who settled the preli-
minaries of peace with certain re
vol ted colonies, the independanco
of which was afterward acknow-
ledged under the uow rather well
known name of the United States
of America. To the family pape-s
Lord Edmund Fitzmauriee had ac-
cess, and in the course ot his resear-
ches came upon a considerable
number of autograph letters from
the King to Lord Shelburne relat-
ing to the war of independence and
the negotiations then going 011.
When he heard that Mr. Bancroft
was in town he called upon him,
told him of what he had discovered,
and offered to place the whole ot the
manuscripts in Mr. Bancroft's hands,
to make what use of he liked. Con-
sidering that the matter in question
related to a war between England
and America; that there is some
dispute as to facts; that Lord Ed
inund Fitzmauriee is an English-
man and Mr. Bancroft an American,
each dealing with the same topic
from his own point of view, it seems
to me that the act of Lord Edmund
Fitzmauriee was a singularly grace-
ful and generous one. There are
not many handsomer things in litera-
ry history. Mr. Bancroft accepted
joyfnllyand gratefully, the original
documents were sent him, the chief
of the archives office—lam sorry
I dont know his name and proper
title—lent him two copyists, and
before Mr. Bancroft left town, he
had accurate transcripts of every-
thing of interest in the papers,
They do not contradict or modify,
he says, his previously formed
views of the character of the King
or of Lord Shelburne, or of events,
but they fill gaps and supply mate
rial lor positive statements in place
of former conjectures and inferen-
ces.

The Tonic produces a healthy action of
the stomach, creating an appetite, form-

cases of Indigestion.
Schunck's Mandrake Pills, fOu the
Cure of Liver Complaint, »Vc.
These pills aro alterative, and produce a
healthy action of the liver without the
least danger, as they aro free from calo-
mel, and yet more eticacions in restoring a
healthy action of the liver.
These remedies are a certain cure for
Consumption, as the Pulmonic Syrup ri-
pens the matter and purifies the blood.
The Mandrake Pills net upon the liver,
create a healthy bile, and remove all dis-
eases of the liver, often a cause of Con-
sumption The Sea Weed Tonic gives tone
and strengt h to the stomach, makes a good
digestion, and enables the organs to form
good blood; and thus creates a healthy
circulation of healthy blood. The cop>-
bined action of these medicines, as thus
explained, will cure every ease of consump-
tion, if taken in time, and the use of the
medicines persevered in.
