BAKER
From page 1
"It was a conversation that took
place a while ago that made it clear
that if neither one became a full-time
employee at Rice University, they
would eventually have to leave the
RAship," Forman said.
Griswold, who became an RA
in 2002, said he decided to resign
at the same time as Higgins and
Gottlieb to make it easier for a
search committee to find a strong
team of RAs.
"It seemed that the easiest time
[to announce my resignation in or-
der] for students to make the transi-
tion ... smoothly was to announce it
at the same time as [Adam and Katie
Beth ]," Griswold said. "The students
get a little bit more time to adjust
to the fact that I'm leaving. ... But
instead of doubling the work and
having two search committees, we're
able to do it at once and really have
time to look through all the candi-
dates in an organized way and find a
team that works well together."
Peacock said he hopes the com-
mittee will find accessible RAs.
"In general, [I think the new RAs
should be] very approachable and
very fun," Peacock said. "I wouldn't
hesitate to go knock on either
of my RAs' doors at 2 [a.m.] or
something like that. You want that
kind of person who's fun, outgoing
and really committed to getting the
members of the college involved,
not only at Rice but also in the city
of Houston."
Margaret Schwartz, a sophomore
who is on the search committee, said
she would like the committee to find
RAs who will be actively involved at
Baker.
"I'd like to see someone who is
able to relate to all of the students
and who has a really open-door
policy so they develop close personal
relationships [with the students],"
Schwartz said.

Gottlieb said he will miss the
endless variety of life as an RA.
He said he plans to stay involved
at Baker as an associate after he
leaves.
"We're going to remain associ-
ates of Baker at least until the
time when this year's freshmen
graduate," Gottlieb said. "We'd
[certainly] like to follow them. I
think depending on our schedules
we'll still do a lot of the same stuff
[we do as RAs]."
Griswold said he will miss interact-
ing with students at Baker.
"I think at the end of the day I
am going to miss ... walking across
campus, running into students that
I know," Griswold said. "The stu-
dents from Baker always recognize
me right away, and I'm always glad
