FRIDAY
DROP you like 3rd period French
If you're a first-semester student at
Rice (freshmen and transfers), you
can still drop a class today. Forms
are due at 5 p.m. to the Registrar's
Office and can be printed off their
website. No signature required
(except your own).
Prizes are tubular
The drawings for the prizes given
out by the Registrar's Office starts
today. More info online.
Sketch-tastic
Rice Sketch Comedy is a funny
thing that involves free pizza and
(free?) comedy. 'Tis the season
to go to the RMC's Grand Hall
from 7-9 p.m.
The North Pole is a real place.
Just ask Tom Hanks.
Rice's Starlight Movie Night movie:
Polar Express. Starring: Tom Hanks
as a joyriding ghost narrator/cab-
bie/guy on a train, other people as
voices of characters. Polar Express
arrives at the Rice Stadium tonight
at 7 p.m. (The usual no glass, no
SATURDAY CTND
Posathat, yo.
HACER (Hispanic Association for
Cultural Enrichment at Rice) is host-
ing Posada, their annual Christmas
performance-type deal, in the RMC's
Grand Hall tonight at 6:30 p.m. En-
joy a celebration of Hispanic culture
and DINNER (I don't know if that's
an acronym, but it was capitalized
in the e-mail I got) of traditional
Latin American food. (Maybe TC?
Probably not. But I love that stuff.)
Tickets are $5 for the non-Ricers and
$4 for Rice students.
SUNDAY

I thought that perhaps it used
to be just the President's
study break
Perhaps my memory is going. It's
in the RMC/Ley Student Center/
Brochstein Pavilion. It's growing
like the blob: first Dean Forman,
now the Pavilion. What next?
Hosted by the President's Office,
the Dean's Office, and the (Office)
of the Rice Program Traditions
Committee (Office), come let them
break you in between study peri-
ods, from 9-11 p.m.
SATURDAY
MONDAY
Who has any clue what this is?
I don't!
"Soft Space [Hard Rave]" is hosted
by Archis ("Archies"? Regardless,
they are filled with mysteries) to-
night 10 p.m. - 2 a.m. in Anderson
Hall. (It's where the architecture
happens.) Sidebar: the official host
is "architecture society @ rice."
Study Days!
It's like Owl Days except possibly
more interesting! No finals to-
day. As a point of reminiscence,
do you remember before Owl
Weekend was downsized from
the weekend and the Student Ad-
mission Council was really run by
students? Good times....

MONDAY CTND
If an obstacle is just an oppor-
tunity in disguise, does that
mean that opportunities are
challenges in disguise?
Do you have an interest in engineer-
ing and/or places other than Ameri-
ca? Visit the "Engineering Opportu-
nities Abroad Study Break," tonight
at 8 p.m. in the Brown College Com-
mons. On the subject, i received
this communique (i shortened it):
"Take a break from your studies
and join us at this event highlight-
ing a range of programs including
IIT Bombay, Nanojapan, the DAAD
RISE program, INNOVATE, and
paid internships abroad through
IAESTE."
TUESDAY
'NO EXAMS." says Registrar
A cold rain beats down on the
burnt-red tiles of Rice University.
Lightning flashes. In the darkness,
professors bare their teeth at the Al-
len Center, wondering how they let
this happen. Students cower in the
safety of their rooms, poring over
books, glancing nervously at their
doors, furtively through the win-
dows. Finals are coming...
FRIDAY
Do you remember that course
"Who is not a Jew?" Lump this
into that category.
The Houston Museum of Natu-
ral Science opens its newest
exhibit, "The Birth of Christian-
ity: A Jewish Story," today. The
story examines the origins of
Christianity and their description
mentions the Dead Sea Scrolls.
Apparently, they are connected.
Maybe visit the exhibit (rhyme
time!) and find out how. Go to
www.hmns.org for more info.
Nothing says Christmas like...
A Muppet Christmas Carol. It
plays tonight — with How the
Grinch Stole Christmas — as one
of the Starlight Movie Night fea-
tures. Same bat time, same bat
place. (7 p.m. in the Rice Sta-
dium.) Did you know that the
"bat" phrase originated with ad-
vertising for the original Batman
television series? True story.
WEDNESDAY 1J
Finals are over! That's all.
3 p,n». the Monday prior to pub-
lication. Submissions are print-
ed on a space available basis.

WEDNESDAY 10 ■ FRIDAY
'Where did all the students go?" Oh, A Christmas Fory.
Leonidas scans the desolate Rice
campus. From the darkness, a
small boy stumbles, almost humor-
ously. His eyes glaze like donuts as
he drops into Leonidas' six-pack
arms. "They came from the dark-
ness...," the boy whispers, "finals."
