RTV5 STATION MANAGER
Daniel Derozier
KTRU STATION MANAGER
Nick Schlossman
One year as Small Concerts Director. One year as "Sultan
O' Stick." Two years as DJ. Four years listening.
In addition to welcoming you to get a taste for our
broadcast offerings (91.7 & 91.5 FM, and online at krru.
org), we encourage interested students to become involved
with the station as DJs, as well as in assisting in the diverse
work we do, including booking bands to play on campus,
contact with the music industry and sifting through brand
new albums, promotions and contact with local venues,
and the development of our online and on air technologies. I hope to continue our
ongoing work to increase the quality and variety of our programming on campus
and beyond.
RPC PRESIDENT
Maggy Taylor
Hi Rice! I am so excited to be your RPC President for this upcoming year. 1 have
been involved with RPC ever since the first semester of my freshman year and 1 can't wait
to not only sustain, but also improve it. My involvement has included being a formals
co-chair, Will Rice representative, secretary, and publicity chair. 1 have witnessed RPC
make many improvements over the past two years, including the reestablishment of our
Spirit and Morale committee, the beginning of a new tradition with First Friday, as well
as an amazing Esperanza this past fill semester.
As President, 1 hope to continue the excellence of these events, as well as
create more events to unite the Rice population on a university level. I look forward to
collaborating with the rest of the council to think of new ideas to for all you, and I hope
that you are excited to see what we come up with!
RSVP TREASURER
Sarah Wu
My name is Sarah Wu and I'm running for RSVP trea-
surer. I believe that my qualities of dedication, organization,
and responsibility make me a good fit for this position, and
the proof lies in the success of the projects I've taken part
in. I've had many roles in the organization of RSVP events
such as agency contact committee head for Project Pumpkin,
member of the publicity committee for the Hunger Banquet,
and publicity coordinator for this spring's Outreach Day.
I've been really involved in RSVP this past year and would
like to take my involvement to the next level. Vote for me and I will serve RSVP to
the best of my abilities.
RSVP SECRETARY
Catherine Huang
Pertinent information: Catherine is a freshman from Han-
s/en; she is an RSVP College Rep; she has helped plan several
RSVP projects; and she likes doing paperwork, a trait she thinks
every secretary should have. Not-so-pertinent information;
she likes Latin dancing, being stereotypically Asian, the color
infra-black and the number nine (42 is a close second); she is
practically married to her laptop anyway (meeting summaries
would never be late); she likes to complain about how Rice
students never get "out of the hedges"; and likes referring to
herself in the third person, apparently. About that second to last point, she wants to raise
awareness about the need for volunteering in Houston. She knows that many people
volunteer independently of RSVP or are too busy to search for long-term volunteering
opportunities. She thinks that putting together a guide of nearby volunteering organiza-
tions with the necessary contact information might be a really cool idea. She is appreciative
that you have read this far. Have a nice day.
Lisa Sun
We at Rice have been handpicked because of our intel-
ligence, our ambition, our potential. But somehow we have
become notorious for having an inactive student body, insulated
within our textbooks and our parties. RSVP was created as a
bridge between our campus and the world. This organization
has established significant connections in our community;
all it needs now is your interest. As a Rice student, you have
the power to select our officers for the coming year — fellow
classmates who will share their passion for aiding those in need
by informing and motivating our campus to take a stand and make a contribution, on
any scale. I have served RSVP for the past year as a dedicated member, through Outreach
Days, the Health Committee and the Hunger and Homelessness Committee. I am also
a New Student Representative for our Student Association and an active member of the
Humanitarian Medical Outreach group. I he position of RSVP Secretary is essential to
RSVP because the minutes of every meeting are sent out to the RSVP listserv, reaching a
large part of the student body that would otherwise be completely oblivious to the service
opportunities our officers have worked hard to create.
1 urge you take advantage of this chance to be involved in RSVP by helping us to select
our executive committee. And please consider me, Lisa Sun, for RSVP Secretary.
