A Democratic member of the next
House said to-day that Attorney
General Brewster's' silence with
reference to Senator VanWyck't
charges as to Gee. Bliss' lees
would not p7event a thorough air-
ing of the matter. A Senator had
charged openly that Mr. Bliss and
others had been paid fees amouut^
ing to $150 a day, including Sun-
days. and in Mr Bliss'ca^e expenses
had been paid in addition to the
fee, yet Mr. Brewster had not paid
the least attention to the accusation
of wasting public money. A sala-
ry was being paid to ordinary law^
vers greater than that paid to tue
President of the United States
Mr. Brewster need uot think that
the matter would rest with Senator
Van vVyck'a charge. When the
Democratic House ^ouvened there
would be an overhauling oi mat-
ters which Mr. Brewster would
put in shape it he knew what thpy
were about. By that time the
star routs trial would be over, and
