explain any deficiencies that must be removed and assist the student
in selecting appropriate courses for his first semester's work.
c. After being admitted to graduate study the student will confer
with his department head or graduate advisor for the preparation
of a Preliminary Outline of Work for the Master's Degree, which
will include any supporting background requirement and any graduate
work accepted for transfer from another institution. This preliminary
outline will be prepared in triplicate and all copies submitted
to the Dean of the Graduate School for approval. This preliminary
outline should be prepared before enrollment or early in the first
semester of graduate study.
d. Each graduate student will maintain an up-to-date Graduate
Student Records Folder, and should have it available for conferences
and when enrolling in graduate courses. Identical folders will be
maintained by the department head or the graduate advisor and the
Dean of the Graduate School. In order that each folder may be complete,
all forms and pertinent communications will be accomplished
in triplicate. The Graduate Student Records Folder, when complete,
will contain
Notice of admission to graduate study.
Transcripts of undergraduate work and of any graduate work
begun in another school.
Preliminary outline of work for the Master's Degree.
Application for and admission to candidacy for the master's
degree, including a degree plan approved by the major department.Any other pertinent communications with the major department
or the graduate office.
e. As problems arise, students are urged to confer with their major
professor, the department head or advisor, and the Dean of the
Graduate School.
General Requirements for the Master's Degree
1. Residence Requirement
The minimum residence requirement is 24 semester hours, which
can be met in one academic year or the equivalent.* Part-time enrollment
is evaluated on a fractional basis.
The remaining hours required for the degree may be earned in
one or more of the following ways:
a. A maximum of six hours as a resident student in another recognized
college or university.
b. A maximum of six hours in extension work approved in advance
by the Graduate Council. (Not more than nine hours
may be presented in transfer and extension combined.)
c. A maximum of six hours on a thesis which may be done in
absentia if such is approved by the Graduate Council.
*A maximum of one-third of the total hours required for the degree may be done
in Hardin-Simmons University and counted as residence in Abilene Christian College
provided the courses are approved by the Graduate Council.
