e. Following the action of the Graduate Council, the student will
receive from the graduate office an approved copy of the application
or a letter explaining why approval has been withheld.
f. After a student has been admitted to candidacy, no changes
may be made in the degree plan without the approval of the department
concerned and the Dean of the Graduate School.
4. Thesis Requirement
a. A thesis is required for all degrees except the Master of Education
Degree and Master of Arts in Biblical and Patristic Greek.
When a thesis is required, a committee of three to direct the thesis
will be appointed by the Dean of the Graduate School in consultation
with the student and with the major department head or graduate advisor.
One member of the committee must be from the candidate's major
field and one from his minor field or supporting fields.
b. The thesis must demonstrate the student's ability to do research,
to think independently, and to write clearly and effectively the results
of his study.
c. A reading copy of the thesis must be in the hands of the chairman
of the thesis committee not later than eight weeks prior to graduation
in a long session, and not later than five weeks prior to graduation
in a Summer session.
d. Four copies of the thesis (two for the library, one for the major
professor, and one for the candidate) must be submitted to the
Dean of the Graduate School not later than two weeks before the degree
is to be conferred in a long session, and not later than one week
before the degree is to be conferred in a Summer session. A binding
fee of $16.00 must be deposited with the Bursar of the college before
the degree is conferred.
e. Each copy of the thesis must be accompanied by a 300-word
abstract when it is turned in to the Graduate Office.
f. The thesis must be prepared in conformity with regulations obtainable
in the graduate office.
5. Examinations Requirement
In addition to all regular course examinations, graduate students
will be required to take a comprehensive examination over the major
field. If a thesis is presented, the candidate will be required to pass
an oral examination over the thesis. The examining committee will
be composed of the three members of the thesis committee and two
additional members appointed by the Dean of the Graduate School.
6. Application for the Degree
The candidate must make written application for the degree in
the graduate office not later than eight weeks prior to graduation in a
