tian College, under the leadership of Blue Key, contributed over
$5,000 to this fund. This fund is to be invested with the earnings to
be used as scholarships for the Graduate School. Blue Key plans toadd
to the fund each year until the fund reaches $10,000.
The Mr. and Mrs. Roy C. Coffee Scholarships. In 1961 Mr. and Mrs.
Roy C. Coffee of Dallas donated to Abilene Christian College certain
stocks, valued at approximately $26,000, for the establishment of
scholarships for students in the College. Monies from the sale of the
stocks are invested, with the income to be used for scholarships.
W. R. Smith Scholarships. In appreciation for Abilene Christian College
and Mr. Smith's friendship, an interested party created several
awards for potentially productive preachers. Bible majors are eligible
to apply. These scholarships will be available for a period of five
years, 1961-66.
Other Scholarships. Foundations and individuals frequently make
special scholarship funds available from year to year. In addition, the
college budgets a sum each year for scholarship purposes, and graduate
students as well as undergraduates are eligible to apply for such
assistance.
Loan Funds. Various institutional loan funds, as well as National Defense
Education Act loans, are available to assist worthy students in
continuing their education.
Graduate Assistantships. A number of teaching and research assistantships
are available each year for students with outstanding undergraduate
records. Application forms may be secured from Dr. Walter H.
Adams, Dean of the College. The prospective student should communicate
directly with Dean Adams and with the department head concerned.Student Dormitory Assistants. In each dormitory on the campus, students
are employed as assistants to the dormitory managers and hostesses.
Preference is given to graduate students for these assignments.
Interested students should communicate directly with Garvin Beauchamp,
Dean of Students, Abilene Christian College.
Placement Service
The placement office is one of the basic student personnel services
of the college. Assistance is given to students and alumni in securing
teaching positions, business or industrial positions, governmental
positions, positions for summer work, and part-time employment.
At the same time, it gives its services to boards of education,
colleges, and to employment representatives of business, industry, and
governmental agencies who may be in need of qualified personnel.
There are no charges for the services of the office.
