Language. A reading knowledge of German, to be tested by the
Modern Language Department of the College. This examination must
be passed by the time the student presents application for admission
to candidacy.
Examinations. Two examinations (which take the place of a thesis)
must be passed by the candidate:
A. A written translation of Biblical and Patristic Greek authors.
The examination will be of 4 hours' length and will presuppose that
the candidate has completed a minimum list of readings in the original
of about 2,000 pages. (List on request).
B. A. written examination on Hellenistic or Koine Greek. The
examination will include features of grammar, relation of Koine to
Classical, relation of Biblical to general Koine, the background of
the N. T. world, and a general knowledge of textual criticism of the
New Testament. The examination will be for 4 hours.
Departmental Requirements
for Master of Science Degree
Prerequisite: Bachelor of Science Degree or its equivalent.
Major: A major may be presented in the practical or the religious
education field. A minimum of 18 semester hours, including a
thesis, must be completed in the major field.
Minor: Six hours must be divided between two of the four remaining
fields. The remaining six hours may be selected in conference
with the department head or graduate advisor.
