Graduate Advisor: J. R. Endsley
The graduate courses and research in Biology include study in
the field of physiology, endocrinology, cytology, vertebrate zoology,
and ecology, leading to the Master of Science degree.
Departmental Requirements for the Degree
Prerequisite: A Bachelor of Science degree or the equivalent.
Major: A minimum of 18 semester hours, including a thesis,
must be completed in the major field.
Minor: A minor of at least six semester hours must be completed
in either chemistry, physics, or mathematics. The remaining
six hours may be selected from the major or minor fields or both, or
may comprise a second minor. Secondary school teachers may with
prior approval from the department, elect a second minor of six hours
from the field of Education.
Foreign Language: A reasonable proficiency in either German or
French is required, to be evidenced in one of the following ways:
By submitting college credit equivalent to that required for the
bachelor's degree in biology in this institution; or
By demonstrating ability to read scientific literature of the major
field in the language, the examining committee to be composed
of one representative from the Department of Modern Languages and
one representative from the candidate's major department.

Courses for advanced undergraduates and graduates are listed
first. Then listed are "G" courses, which are for graduate students
only.
351. Genetics (3). A survey course in heredity. The principles of inheritance
in plants and animals with particular emphasis upon understanding
what the genetic material is from an operational standpoint.
Prerequisite: Six hours of Biology.
