389. Range Management Workshop. This course will include a study of
grasses and other forage plants, as to their identification, distribution,
propagation, improvement, and management. It will also include
the problems met in managing native range land, maintenance
of production on these lands and management of range livestock as
it affects vegetation. Range ecology and its relationship to range
condition classes will be studied. A three-week workshop offered in
the summer only, and designed primarily for the vocational agriculture
teacher.
393. Grain and Fiber Crops. A special study of the recent advances in the
production and improvement of the major agronomic crops. Particular
attention will be given to cotton and the grain crops. Prereqquisites:
Ag. 312, Bio. 409.
395. Soil Physics. The physical relationships of soil moisture, aeration and
temperature to plant growth. Mineralogical and organic composition,
structural condition, tillage, irrigation and other soil management
practices are considered as factors that affect these relationships.
Prerequisites: Ag. 312, 433, General Physics and Chemistry.
396. Plant and Animal Breeding. Genetics applied to the improvement of
crop plants and domestic animals and methods of selection. Prerequisite:
Biology 351 (Genetics).
397. Range Livestock Production. The interrelation of climate, soils, vegetation,
and man to range livestock production. Problems concerning
range conditions, stocking rates, and other management situations
under range conditions. Visits to the college ranch and other outstanding
ranches in the area will be made. Prerequisite: 12 hours Agriculture.398. Advanced Range Management. Physical features affecting the use of
range vegetation; field classification of range grass and range plants.
Mapping and surveying ranges. This course is designed for students
desiring to work in the field of range management. Actual problems
will be assigned in the field. Prerequisites: Agriculture 353, 354.
399. Problems in Range Management. Individual projects and research
methods on range management problems. Students will be assigned
field problems to work out on their own initiative, and will also help
plan range programs in grassland conservation. Prerequisite: Agriculture

American Studies
The American Studies program is an inter-departmental program
designed to give the student a deeper understanding of and appreciation
for our American heritage. The seminars are scheduled principally
in the summer sessions of the college, and liberal fellowships are
available to public school teachers who desire to participate in the
program.
