American system of business under free enterprise has developed,
problems faced today, and the outlook for the future. Subjects to be
studied include: free enterprise in America and the development of
capitalism, the American labor movement, banking and the money
supply, the Federal Reserve System, money and prices, taxation, corporations
and monopoly, liberal socialism and the welfare state, totalitarian
Communism, totalitarian Facism, and making capitalism
work. Instructor: William E. Wright.
Education 399. The American Educational Heritage. A study of the history of education
in a free society. Attention is given to historic movements
for individual liberty, our English heritage, education in colonial
America, the national government and education, education in the 20th
century, and unresolved issues in education. Instructor: Orval Filbeck.
Government 399. The American Constitutional System. The origins, development,
and present state of the Arerican constitutional system and
salient issues in contemporary public law. Instructor: Wendell McC.

History 399. American Political Biography, 1607-1865. A study of some of the
leading political figures of the early period of American history, with
special emphasis on ideas which most affected the course of the American
Republic. Among those to be considered are Bradford, Washington,
Jefferson, Madison, John Quincy Adams, Marshall, Calhoun,
Lee, and Lincoln. Instructor: John C. Stevens.
Speech 392. Studies in American Public Address. A study of the outstanding
speeches, speakers, and speech movements in American history. Emphasis
is placed on those speakers who made outstanding contributions
to our American heritage. Instructor: Rex P. Kyker.

377. Art for Elementary Teachers. Projects designed to provide the teacher
with art theory, techniques, and activities appropriate to the elementary
level. Actual case studies of the child and his art to discover
individual creative and mental growth patterns.
