in Abilene Christian College, whether pointing toward a degree or
not, must file an application for admission to graduate study. This application,
together with transcripts of all previous college work, undergraduate
and graduate, and a report of scores on the Aptitude
Test of the Graduate Record Examinations, should be submitted to
the graduate office as far in advance of the prospective date of enrollment
as possible. (If the prospective student has already established
graduate standing in another school, and intends to transfer credits
from A.C.C. toward his program in that school, a statement of good
graduate standing may take the place of a complete transcript.) Graduate
credit will not be allowed for any course unless the student has
been granted admission to graduate study.
b. Graduates of Abilene Christian College and of other colleges'
or universities that are members of regional accrediting associations
may be admitted to graduate study upon the presentation of the proper
credentials by the candidate. Graduates of institutions that are not
members of regional accrediting associations may be admitted with
the approval of the Graduate Council, but if admitted they will be on
scholastic probation.
c. Graduate work demands a substantially greater effort on the
part of the student than is characteristic of undergraduate work.
Therefore, unless a student has an over-all grade-point average of at
least 2.7 (see paragraph 10 below) on his undergraduate work, he
will be admitted on scholastic probation. He must average 3.0 on
the first 12 semester hours of graduate study in order to be removed
from scholastic probation. If he does not attain this average on the
first 12 semester hours of graduate study he may not re-enroll without
permission of the Graduate Council.
Any student who does not maintain a 3.0 grade-point average
will be placed on scholastic probation. If during his next enrollment
he fails to attain a 3.0 average, he may not re-enroll without the permission
of the Graduate Council.
d. When the student is granted admission, he will be notified in
writing. If he is admitted conditionally, he will be told the conditions
that must be removed.
e. A person reporting for registration as a graduate student without
having filed an application and other credentials for graduate
status, may, upon presentation of an undergraduate transcript, be tentatively
enrolled. The student should understand that after his credentials
have been examined, the institution reserves the right to deny
him graduate standing if his credentials do not satisfy admission requirements.f. Admission to graduate study does not imply admission to candidacy
for the master's degree.
