Casing Is Run
On Deep Test
page editor of the Amarillo Daily News and Globe Times She is
thorough dependable and can always be counted upon to hold up
her end of the job whatever it is
With all her capabilities and fine qualities it is to be deplored
that she would also be the most likely candidate in the state for
tho title Miss Political Irresponsibility if and when such a title is
conferred
It was Miss Evans who introduced the expression laborliberal
loyalist or the Three Ls to the Golden Spread
Perhaps nowhere in America could an area be found which is
more American more conservative in the true sense
of the word more dedicated to private enterprise and
individual initiative in the true sense of the words
more nntlCommunist more patriotic more anti
radical than tlie area served by the Amarillo papers
Tills area is made up primarily of farmers small
town folks just a step away from the farm and masses
of city folk who perhaps are only two steps away
from the farm These people are found in churches
on Sunday at PTA and at the various civic clubs
during the week
tins area has a bare minimum of foreign influence The nonwhite
population is infinitesimal and has never been a factor in any
election Organized labor has never been a potent political force in
the area Not only has organized labor never been a major factor
In politics in this area but it is doubtful if members of the small
organized groups we have over united behind a personality There is
greater evidence that this segment of the economy has voted as individuals
just as do small town folks city folks and farmers
COUNTRY EDITOR
HIESE PEOPLE described above voted overwhelmingly for
Ralph Yarborough in his U S Senate race a year ago Every
county in the Panhandle except two went for Yarborough who also
carried every South Plains county except one The trend was similar
in recent gubernatorial races in which Yarborough was a candidate
Meanwhile the questionable South Texas boss counties consistently
vote conservative
In our precinct and county conventions in recent years we have
seen the same trend which was in opposition to the socalled conservative
machine in Texas
COUNTRY EDITOR
VIEW OF the fact that Miss Evans pictures Ralph Yarborough
IN
borough as the chief exponent of the Three Ls even the
stupid can figure out tho implication stie makes She has been saying
in so many words that a majority of the people of this area
belong to her liberallaborloyalist group which term has anything
but wholesome implications
It would seem that a girl as intelligent as Louise would feel
rather foolish when she sits down and analyzes this situation She
isnt stupid She isnt thick She knows the score
And there is evidence that she has recognized the ridiculous situation
in which she has placed herself and is trying to slip out of
it gracefully Last week she wrote Once upon a time there was
tho ThreeLs
At least a group designating themselves as a political unit in
Texas claimed to be a coalition of Liberals Loyalists and Labor
Today tho ThreeLs have apparently dwindled to OneL
Ralph Yarborough who had the support of the ThreeLs in his
three defeats for the gubernatorial laurel wreaths has now become
senator and says he represents all of tho people
His success in tho senatorial special election robbed the
Loyalists and the Liberals of a rallying point The Loyalists in the
intramural fights of the Texas Democratic Party mostly returned to
the moderate ranks The Liberals had to give up their title you
cant be a real Liberal If your own man Is in office because a Liberal
can only be in good voice against the menwhoarein
Therefore the prcclnctbyprecinct organization seems to be left
In the hands of the ThirdL Labor
COUNTRY EDITOR
iO THE solid core of High Plains citizens who have been
nothing but oldline Democrats without prefixes for as long
as they can remember who voted Democratic even in 1928 and 1952
who have not been swayed by personalities of the moment that
streaked across the horizon who have been Hall county cotton farmers
all their lives or perhaps have operated their smalltown stores
In Tulia or Dlmmltt for tho past half century Miss Evans appears
even more ridiculous now than she did when she dubbed us members
of the ThreeL splinter group
We Democrats who might rightfully be called loyalists since
wo are all guilty of being loyal to tho principles of the party
whose name we take would inform Miss Evans and all other
johnnlescomelately that we havo neither loft nor returned to any
political faction Many of the real Democrats of this area were old
enough to vote for Yarboroughtypo Democrats when Miss Evans was
in diapers And many of us will still bo voting for Yarborough
typo Democrats when she has passed off tho horizon to hor reward
whatever that might be
Furthermore wo rosont boing smeared Insulted slondorod and
lectured on Damocracy by Individuals and newspapers that have beon
so confused politically they cant ovon classify thomsolvee under any
political catogory

sake although you arc working for a Republican paper try to be
responsible oven if you are out of step with tho majority of your
subscribers Support the candidacy of one of your bosses who is
running for the Senate as a Taft Republican on tho Republican ticket

Activities such as those that oc

It would seom to me that the Pre

demonstration clubs Saturday and
Sunday afternoons upward to 1200
persons reported to the home economics
cottage on tho high school
campus cither for blood typing or
to register in cases where they already
had a card indicating their
blood type on these two afternoons
Earlier this month 180 persons reported
at Kress and 260 at Happy
for typing As a result of the pro
ject more than 1600 names have
been secured for tho central files
to be kept at Swisher County hospital
and at one other place
In case any of this 1600name
list needs a blood transfusion for
himself his typo will be known
immediately from the card he will
have on his person and valuable
minutes will be saved which could
mean the difference between life and
death Transfusions can never be
given until the patients blood type
has been determined
Also when other persons need
transfusions persons having the type
needed can be determined quickly
from the central files
The files would be of inestimable
value in case of disaster in which
there probably would be a need for
mass transfusions
All work on the project including
that of the laboratory technicians
