EDITORIAL

Wandering down the halls these
last few days I have begun to realize
that an era in my life is about to
close
I have been excited and happy
about my graduation and only now
have I begun to know what I am
leaving and how very little I really
know about life and the work at
whose door I now stand
These past 12 years of my school
career have each been a step toward
a high goal that everyone wants to
reach
The day I walk out of THS never
to return as a student I will leave
a part of my heart
Much happiness and anxiety has
gone into that part of my heart
I know that someday I will return
and I will still hear the laughter
ringing down the halls along with
the Uptap of the never fading footstepsMy school holds many memories
for me but I am not alone For if
mat part of each of the departed
seniors hearts was placed together
into one huge heart its beat would
produce a flood of love and gratitude
never known before

Audiovisual aids have begun to
play a very important part in the
Class Night
Activity May 23
Dan McDaniel president of the
senior class will preside at the
Class Night activities to be held May
23 in the high school auditorium at
8 pm Nancy Shurbet will play a
teaching program of today Through
use of a wide variety of materials
and devices a teacher can provide
interesting learning opportunities
not only for the average child but
for the gifted and the slowlearning
There are many different types of
materials that a teacher can employ
and adjust to fit her special needs
and grade level Many of these devices
are provided by the school but
every teacher also makes use of
materials available in the community
for little or no cost Interested
parents can aid in this area by help
ing to provide materials
Visual aids should be used in such
a way that the children will learn
to accept this method of teaching as
an everyday part of their school
instruction for example films that
are used for instructional purposes
should be thought of as a part of
the curriculum just as books maps
and blackboards
The use of audovisual aids begins
when the child enters school
and continues through every grade
Opaque projectors film strips flannel
boards slides taperecorders
records and even the blackboard are
aids that can be adapted to fit any
learning situation along with models
and actual objects which may be
available to the teacher
Audiovisual aids can be used to
progress toward the following objectives1 Developing of vocal skills in a
variety of situations
2 Providing varied sensory approaches
to learning
3 Establishing an atmosphere for
creative thinking and postive projection
of a pupils personality
4 Securing a ready and exact
knowledge of subject matter
Parents want children to acquire
as much learning as possible in school
since a good education is a real
necessity In the world today Also
school days are such a large part
of childrens lives that they should
be enjoyable Audiovisual materials
offer a teacher an excellent opportunity
for a good wellrounded and
interesting educational program

Dear Mrs Clonts
Since this Is your last year of
teaching I would like to write you
a letter of appreciation
In tho first grade a child doesnt
know where to begin That was tho
way with me You helped mo so
much to get started In school
Some of the things I remember
most are your sweet smile and how
patient and kind and sweet you always
were how you taught me to
read and to write my name and my
first number work They certainly
seem easy now but they werent
in the first grade I remember nt
the end of school I got to give you
tho corsage Then the first grade
program that year was the thrill
of my life I liked tho part of a
butterfly so much I know now how
hard you must have worked on it
When I was sick and couldnt come
to school you would call and nsk
mother about me and it made me
feel so good
I guess I couldnt write this without
remembering how I cried at
first You helped me to get over
that like a mother would and I
loved like mother You helped
you a
each one of my little Neighbors
as well as me with our own problems
I dont know what I would
have done If you hadnt been so
sweet I still have the nickel you
gave me for making the most stars
I know there are lots of other
boys and girls that feel the same
way about you Thanks for everything
you have done for all of us
I will always remember my FIRST
GRADE TEACHER
With Lots of love

New FuelSaver Choke that helped clinch title
is standard equipment on all Plymouth V 8s
Pound for pound Plymouth uses less gasoline than either

proved beyond doubt when a 1958 Plymouth VOvvas

more economical but Plymouth beat every car
in its class V8s and 6s alike

eight freezers of ice cream

On tho trip down to Roaring
Springs tho boys rodo on ono bus
and tho girls on tho other
As the buses reached their des
tination and prepared to cross the
creek tho lead bus full of boys
began to sink in the sand Boys piled
out every door and window and began
to push As It slowly pulled its
way out of the sand they scrambled
everywhere trying to hang on
Soon after the seniors arrived des
plto tho cloudy chilly weather several
boys were happily swimming in
tho pool Several people began eat
ing and before anyone knew it someone
had carried off 24 sandwiches
a freezer of Ico cream and a cake
Coach Stewart found tho cako be
hind a bush and later four people
found the freezer down by the creek
under a tumble weed a far distance
from the place where tho original
thieves had put It These four people
carried the freezer back to camp
but a short while later it was gom
again
That afternoon Don Morris came
strolling up carrying the now empty
freezer with an innocent story that
it had been found in the middle of
tho road
The day began in the dreary atmosphere
of cold and rain but it
ended with sunny memories of getting
pushed in the swimming pool
Being chased With crabs playing
ball hiking eating and eating and
getting Ino all types of mischief
Around fourthirty the seniors piled
wearily on the buses They were not
too weary however to mix on the
return trip with one bus loaded with
boys and girls and the other loaded
with boys and two girls
When the buses rolled Into Tulia
and stopped the people who piled
off were a far cry from the shivering
sleepyeyed people who had left that
morning Instead they were muddy
blistered and tired but happy
