[Special to the News.1
Cleburne, December 9.—The Civil District
Court concluded its labors on Saturday.
When the term began there were suita against
the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe railway on
the docket to the amount of $00,000, and out
of that amount only two verdicts against the
company were rendered, aggregating $1769,
and a new trial was obtained by the com-
pany's counsel in both of them. The good
fortune of the company, it ia stated, may bi
attributed to two things—the activity and
ability of its attorney, Captain Tillmau Smith,
and a reaction in sentiment among the people
against frivolous and exorbitant demands on
corporations.
Two cases were diapoaed of to-day in the
Criminal Court, for cattle and horse-stealing,
the defendants being acquitted in each ciae.
Special venires for the trial of the two kill-
