BULLETIN OF HOWARD PAYNE COLLEGE
Physical Education Building. This Howard Payne College building,
opened during the session of 1939-1940, is a large brick and tile
structure facing Fisk Avenue. It contains basketball courts, volley
ball courts, offices and class rooms. The building is adapted for a
modern program of physical and health education.
During the 1961-62 session a heated swimming pool will be
constructed.
Hall of Science. During the 1962-63 session a new air-conditioned
Hall of Science will be ready for use.
Coggin Academy Building. The front of McClelland Library
building on the Daniel Baker campus is the former Coggin
Academy Building, the first high school building in Brown County.
Ministerial Apartments. This brick apartment building for
Howard Payne ministerial students and their families is on the
southeast side of Fisk Avenue, opposite the Physical Education
building. It has twelve modern efficiency apartments.
Heating Plant. This centrally-located brick structure on the
Howard Payne campus contains the largest steam heating boiler in
the city. Most of the college's permanent buildings are heated from
this central plant.
Temporary Buildings. Both Daniel Baker and Howard Payne
colleges received temporary buildings from Camp Bowie at the
close of World War II to care for the large post-war enrollment.
Howard Payne's temporary structures on Fisk Avenue include
buildings for band, art, biology, business administration and economics,
reading clinic, driver education, journalism and public
relations. Several large temporary class room buildings on the
Daniel Baker campus are used by the agriculture and home economics
departments.
Infirmary. A college infirmary is located on Center Avettue with
a graduate nurse in charge. This building is conveniently situated
on the Howard Payne College campus between the men's and
women's dormitories.
Stephens Apartments. Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Stephens gave
as an annuity to Howard Payne College the income from a large
apartment center on Main Avenue and Clark Street.
President's Home. A white Austin stone structure in a wooded
residential area is provided for the president and his family.
Fleming Religion Center. In 1958 Howard Payne College
was the recipient of a generous gift of $50,000 from Mr. and
Mrs. William Fleming of Fort Worth, which made it possible to
acquire the properties of the First Christian Church on Center34
