BULLETIN OF HOWARD PAYNE COLLEGE
Fred and Emma Hughes Loan Fund: This loan fund is available
to junior and senior students.
The Andrew Wesley and Mary Alma Blankenship Memorial
Loan Fund: This loan fund was established by Mrs. J. G. Thornhill
of Seagraves, Texas, as a memorial to her parents, Mr. Andrew
Wesley Blankenship and Mrs. Mary Alma Blankenship. It was inspired
by their desire to render Christian service, which they were
never fully able to realize because of their lack of formal Christian
training, thus, they expressed a desire "that some part of their remaining
estate be expended toward a living memorial uniting their
names with Christian principles."
National Defense Student Loan Fund: This program was authorized
by the enactment of Public Law 85-864, The National
Defense Education Act of 1958. It provides for the creation, at
American colleges and universities of loan funds from which needy
under-graduate and graduate students may borrow on reasonable
terms for the purpose of completing their higher education.
Young people who desire to make application for loans from
these funds should write to the Director of Student Aid for application
blanks. Applications should be made well in advance of the
date of registration.
SCHOLARSHIPS
Howard Payne College will grant aid to certain groups of
students in the form of scholarships. All persons will pay the full
tuition charges for graduate and correspondence work.
Faculty members, wives or husbands, and minor children of
faculty members will be allowed one-half (/2) of their tuition for
undergraduate courses. This allowance will not exceed $144 per
semester.
Students for the ministry must file the usual license or ordination
certificates from their churches before registration and take
the ministerial orientation course, to be eligible for scholarship
grants. These scholarships will be $8 per semester hour each term.
Wives of ministerial students will be given tuition for undergraduate
courses amounting to one third (V3) of the tuition
charge.
Minor children of ministers actively engaged in the ministry
are given one-fourth (I4) off their tuition. This applies to undergraduate
study only. These students may elect to take a campus
workship in lieu of the /4 grant but cannot receive both.52
