BULLETIN OF HOWARD PAYNE COLLEGE
HISTORY 410. THE AMERICAN FRONTIER. An examination of
the frontier from colonial times to 1890. A formal paper of some
problem of the frontier is required. Summer '62, '63. Spring '63.
Prerequisite: Twelve semester hours of history.
Three semester hours.
HISTORY 501. HISTORY OF IDEAS IN THE MODERN WORLD. An
examination of social, economic, and political theories. For graduate
students with a minor in history. Summer '62.
Prerequisite: Graduate standing. Three semester hours.
HISTORY 502. SEMINAR IN UNITED STATES HISTORY. Open to
graduate students with a minor in history. Summer '63.
Prerequisite: Graduate standing. Three semester hours.
WORLD HISTORY
HISTORY 101-102. WORLD HISTORY. The first semester's work
begins with the earliest human cultures of the Mediterranean area
and of the Orient and continues through Atlantic civilization in
the New World. In the second semester, the modern world is
studied from the seventeenth century to the present. Full year
course. Offered each year.
Prerequisite: None. Six semester hours.
HISTORY 313-314. SURVEY OF EUROPE. The first semester's work
begins with 1515 and progresses through the Napoleonic Wars.
The second semester's work includes a study of Europe from 1815
to the present. Full year course. Summer '63.
Prerequisite: None. Six semester hours.
HISTORY 301-302. GREEK AND ROMAN. Emphasis in the first
semester is on the Greek city-states and the cultural development
of the Greek people. The second semester emphasis is on the various
phases of Roman history. Fall '63.
Prerequisite: Six semester hours of history.
Three semester hours each course.
HISTORY 303-304. MEDIEVAL EUROPE AND THE RENAISSANCE
AND REFORMATION. The first half of this course deals with the
period from the fall of the Roman Empire to the Thirteenth Century.
Emphasis during the second semester is on the Italian Renaissance,
the Protestant Revolution, and the Catholic CounterReformation.
Summer '63.
Prerequisite: Six semester hours of history.
