intergrated study of the foreign elements in the population and the
problems growing out of the presence of these groups. Spring '62.
Prerequisite: Soc. 101. Three semester hours.
SOCIOLOGY 403. PUBLIC WELFARE. A study of public welfare in
its organization, personnel, and problems on the local, state, and
federal levels. Fall '62.
Prerequisite: Soc. 101. Three semester hours.
SOCIOLOGY 405. INTRODUCTION TO COUNSELING. For a description
see Psychology 403.
Prerequisite: Soc. 101, Psy. 101. Three semester hours.

The program of the Department of Speech is based entirely on a
Liberal Arts approach. Thus there is no concentration of courses
but a broad offering of fundamental courses in the field. The program
is planned to serve three groups:
1. The average student, who needs speech to help him in his
daily affairs, as a part of his general background and
development.
2. The slightly handicapped student, who needs some special
help. At present the program cannot go far in this direction,
but it can materially help students whose needs are not
extreme.
3. Students with special abilities in speech (public speaking,
theatre, debate, interpretation, radio and television) who
wish to major in the field.
Because good speech habits require time for development, it
is urged that any student who plans to take one or more courses
in this field shall begin as a freshman. Thus he will have the86
