An introduction to the elements of poetry and fiction integrated with a study of the elements of
music and art, in their historical setting from Classic Greece through the Renaissance. Selections
of great world literature with special attention given to the great masterpieces of art and music of
the period. Fall, Spring.
GENERAL EDUCATION 2303. AMERICAN CIVILIZATION.
Understanding and appreciation of the legacies and problems of American civilization. A study
of American political and social philosophy, but without the continuity of the survey course.
Emphasis is on the industrial age, the contributions of modern diplomacy and on the quest for
domestic and world stability. Fall, Spring.
GENERAL EDUCATION 2305. WORLD CIVILIZATION.
A study of the general pattern of world civilization from antiquity to the present, with emphasis
on the development of freedom and justice as well as the great human ideas, the twentieth-century
clashes of ideologies and quests for world,order. Fall, Spring.
GENERAL EDUCATION 2409. BIOLOGICAL SCIENCE.
A study of the development of the principle concepts of biology and how they have influenced
civilized man; a study of fundamental structure and function of biological systems. Contemporary
problems in biology will be discussed. Lecture and laboratory. Fall and Spring.
GENERAL EDUCATION 3301. HUMANITIES.
A study of great works of literature of the Western World from Neo-Classical periods to the
present time, with special attention given to the great masterpieces of art and music of the period.

GENERAL EDUCATION 3302. SOCIETY AND THE INDIVIDUAL.
A study designed to help the student understand himself and his relation to the society in which
he lives. A basic knowledge of his mental and emotional makeup, his social nature and the importance
of personal and group relationships to his development as a whole person. Emphasis will be
given to the multicultural nature of society as well as to value judgement elements of logic and
techniques of critical thinking. Fall, Spring.
GENERAL EDUCATION 3303. FEDERAL, STATE AND LOCAL GOVERNMENT.
A survey of the structure, functions, processes and problems of the federal government. Examination
is made of the Federal and State Constitutions. A study of the structure and functions
of state and local government in Texas. Fall, Spring.
GENERAL EDUCATION 4201. CONSUMER BUSINESS ACTIVITIES.
A study of business and economic practices in the free enterprise system that affect decisions
that must be made by an individual and the family. Special emphasis will be placed on decisions
that are normally made during the first year of work or marriage when personal or family financial
responsibilities increase. Fall, Spring.
GENERAL EDUCATION 4202. WORLD ISSUES.
This course is designed to be the capstone of the general education program and to give an integrated
understanding of current social, religious, cultural and environmental problems. Fall, Spring.77
