N«w Tork. Dec. 11.— Tli. government's
crop estimate of 11,030.000 bale* was fol-
lowed by a very severe break in the cotton
market here today. Prices linil been lower
during tho morning owing to the continued
weakness of foreign exchange nnd uncer-
tarhty us to Just how long tho coal restric-
tions might remain lu forcc, nnd when the
unexpectedly hlgli crop figures made their
appearance, the selling became general snd
excited. The general llat closed sasy at a
net decline of 87 to 160 points.
For the first time In the memory of some
of the older cotton men here, tho govern-
ment's estimate placrd the yield above any
of the private estimate, snd nearly half h
million hales higher than th* average of
tb"s® figures.
The opening wo* 25 points lower on De-
cemlier with later months unchanged to I
points higher and the market soon weak-
ened under near month liquidation stimu-
lated by the circulation of a few December
notlccs. Forelgp trade Interests were good
buyers on a scale down but the close was at
approximately the lowest of the day.
