The Path to Health
For many thousands of women the
Path to Health has certainly been
through Lydia E. Pinkham's Veg-
etable Compound. When this
great remedy was first introduced,
and for many years after, skeptics
frowned upon its curative claims, —
But as year after year has rolled by and the
little group of women who had been cured
by it lias since grown into a vast army of
hundreds of thousands—doubt and skepti-
cism have been swept away as by a mighty
tidal wave, until today this purely vegetable
medicine is recognized as the greatest
remedy for woman's special ills" in the
world. This is because it is a wonderful tonic
and reconstructor which acts directly and
favorably upon the feminine organization
and is a specific for that purpose.

New York.
New Tork, Oct. It.—An early advance
mat renewed 1-cw llxing or selling for a re-
ad urn in tlio cotton market toduy. Decani-
ber contracts closed at 34.62 a 1th the gen-
eral list closing steady at net unchanged 'o
84 points higiicr on piesent crop positions
but 70 points lo* er on August and Septem-
ber.
Tlie market opened firm at an advance
on expectedly fir in Liverpool cables, an un-
favorably map and reports of a continued
active spot demand In the south.
lhere was a good deal rf realizing and
considerable southern hedge telllug which
caused reactions right after the cull, but
this decline was checked by the western belt
forecast for frost In Oklahoma and parts of
Texas. Buying was also encouraged by re-
ports of an Increasing demand for cotton
goods but tlio marjtet met more pressure as
prices worked back toward the early high
level.' Local map readers doubted whether
the cold anap after the rains in the western
bflt would bring killing temperatures and
sellers predicted a lull In spot demand.
Houses with Wall nreet connections wero
prominent sellers probably reflecting the
easier ruling of the stock mnrket and ru-
mora of a less favorable turn In the presi-
dent's condition. Washington advices stated
that the house had passed the resolution
callng for another crop report from the de-
pa rtment of agriculture on Nov. *.

Chicago.
Chicago, III., Oct. 18.—Corn Tended up-
ward In vulua toduy as a result of wet |
weather snd scantiness of rural offerings, ;
Tha market closed firm, Vic to Vtc higher,
with December 11.11* to 11:11% «»d May >
11.21 "i. Oats gained HO'Ao to Sic. lu [
provisions the outcome varied from 10c de« ;
cliue to 46o mlwuicc.
Rains put fresh strength Into the corn j
market at the outset, but soon afterward )
tho effect was temporarily counter balanced
by an official forecast of clear sklee and
lower temperature. Weakness of forelgij
exchange and of quotations on hogs counted
also In a transient way against hlgbc.- price*
for corn. Later, however, the attention of
tho trada focuased mora and more on reports
that farmers were showing an evident bias
toward a holding policy, and were putting
stress on the relative htgh cost of other
commodities than grain. Covering by she.ts
enstiod. and the market was bulging some-
what at the last In tha abeenoe of any pres-
sure to sell.
Buying on the part of houses with sea-
board connections heliied to strengthen tha
oats market. In o»ts as well ns lu corti, the
country was not selling freely. Provision#
averaged higher chiefly on account of opin-
ions that the semi-monthly statement ol
warehouse stockr wns bullish.

New York, Oct. 111. -The money market
was the one factor of paramount Importance ,
on the stoeic exchange today, all other con- •
siderntlons being subordinated to tha more
rigid tendencies manifested la that tiuartar.
For the first, tliuo In m.'iny months call I
money opened at 10 per cent with an eager
inquiry for time funds at 7 per cent and
little available at that figure. The call raNr*
belli «t Hi per c«nt throughout the session,
but greater core wni exorcised respecting
the character of the collateral.
Btucks were firm to strong at (lie outeet,
but fell back at the first Indications ef
lighter money.
Heavy selling, which bore the marks of
bear pressure, occurred in the last hour, but
a brisk rally ensued, final quotations la
many Instances sinning rallies of t to I
points.
Several speculative Issued achieved the
distinction of scoring new mejtlimtins, not-
ably Bethlehem, Chandler, Fierce-Arrow and
