West brook, Me. — " I was passing
through the Change of Life and had
i pains in my back
and side and wad so
weak I could hardly
do my housework.
I have taken Lydia
E. Pinkham's Vege-
table Compound and
it has done me a lot
of good. I will re-
commend yotlr med-
icine to my friends
and give you permis-
sion to publish my
testimonial." — Mrs. Lawrence Mar-
tin, 12 King St, Westbrook, Maine.
Manston, Wis. "At the Change of
Life I suffered, with pains in my back
and loins until i could not stand, I also
had night-sweats #o that the sheets
would be wet. I tried other medicine
but got no relief. After taking one bot-
tle of Lydia E. Pinkham's Vegetable
Compound I began to improve and I
continued its use for six months. The
pains left me, the night-sweats and hot
flashes grew less, and in one year I was
a different woman. I'know I have to
thank you for my continued good health
ever since." — Mrs. M. J. Brownell,
Manston, Wis.
The success of Lydia E. Pinkham's
Vegetable Compound, made from roots
and herbs, is unparalleled in such cases.

not Only denies that he is one of the
gentler sex, but has brought stilt
against G- W. Brown, a farmer, for
11,500 damages, alleging refamatlon
of character.
Ooldsby went to West Plains sev-
eral months ago from Stuttgart, Ark ,
and began work on the Sparks farm,
lie soon became popular among lhe
young people of the community. His
popularity did not last long after re-
ports began to be circulated that he
was masquarading in man's clothing.
During the day, Goldsby plowed,
tended to the stock, mowed and
pitched hay and did oth«r kinds of
work on the farm. However, during
the evenings, and lYhf'ri work on the
farm was slack, he devoted his time
to sewing, embroidering or crochet-
ing, He also was cook at the ranch/
house, which is bachelor quarters for
the other men employed on the farm.
11« made biscuits that melted in the
mouth and his cakes and salads would
have done justice to the girls of « do-
mestic science class.
Some of the neighbors came to
West Plains and consulted with Pros-
ecuting Attorney I. N. Jett on the ad-j
visibility of having Goldsby arrested.
Goldsby is more than six feet tall i
and weighs about 175 pounds. Al- j
though of a masculine build, his Voice I
is somewhat of a feminine pitch arid j
when he walks he trips along w ith i
what some declared to a real "hob- i
ble skirt gait." The reports finally t
reached Goldsby's ears and he quit hlsi
job and came to West Plains, deter-
mined to punish those who had been j
responsible for his humiliation. He j
consulted an attorney and a petition j
was drawn up in which damages are i
demanded. The suit has just been j
filed in the Howell county circuit
court, and will be tried at the May
term. |
Goldsby says he was born in At- |
lanta, Ga., but spent most of his life |
at Mayfield. Ky., ahtl in Scott county,
Mo. He was engaged in farming near
Stuttgart before coming to West j
Plains, it is said he has been mar-
rlad and that his deceased wife and
ehild are burled at Blodgett, Mo.

countless fields rendered valorous ac-

The creditable part which the people
of this state took in support Of south-
ern defense is a source of pride to the
survivors of the great conflict and of
veneration to the younger generation.
In every community from the Po-
tomac to the Gulf the confederate
veteran is always an honored and a
welcome visitor and guest. No great-
er tribute could be paid to the endur-
ing justice of the principles for which
they contended and for the magnifi-
cent manner in which they; sustained
their convictions through the four
sternest years of American history,
than the unanimous and enduring
verdict of commendation and appre-
ciation which has for half a century
accorded the glorious pariotism and
chivalry of the confederate soldiers
throughout the length and breadth of
the southland they so heroically de-
fended. In Florida the veterans will
find the same cordial respect and un-
bounded hospitality which awaits
them at all points in the Southland.
The formality of assuring a wel-
come to the veterans who will attend
the Jacksonville reunion is quite un-
necessary; but it may be permitted
me to say that I shall always consider
it one of the most pleasing and grati-
fying events occuring during my term
of office as governor that I shall be
privileged to bid veterans of the con-
federacy from all sections welcome as
the guests of the warm-hearted people
of this great state.
