The SubDeb club held Its sec-
ond meeting Tuesday at the
home of Eileen Lallcker Re
ireshments of cold horsdoeuvre
cookies and cake were served
Considerable business was dis-
cussed and plans were made for
a picnic at Lake Marvin Sunday
with an expected crowd of about
twentyfive guests and SubDebs
The club sponsored a rummage
sale here about two weeks ago
and members can always be
seen at the ball games selling
ice cream bars They have been
working hard building up their
treasury and had the pleasure of
depositing more than seventy
dollars to their bank account a
lew days ago
Among the Canadian persons
entering the Perryton rodeo this
week were Johnny McMordic
who won first In the wild cow
milking and second In the rib-
bon roping W R Next who won
second In the fribbon roping
Dickie Barton who won first in
the wild calf milking contest
and Jerry Sportsman Billy Glenn

Funeral services were held at
the First Christian church In
Pampa Saturday for Creekmore
Broaddus 40 of Miami who was
fatally Injured in a hitandrun
traffic accident near Lahoma
Okla on Cvednesday of last
week
Mr Broaddus died two hours
later in an Enid hospital

The American Legion met

McCasland will teach In the 5th
grade J J McCasland will
teach math In high school and
Mrs Clay Allen will be business
Instructor
Vacancies in the local teach-
ing staff remaining at this time
are one Junior high one science
one library one band one social
science one English and an
assistant coach

Sunbeam leaders Mrs Drew

Lamon Beaty entertained the
mothers Monday afternoon with
a program by each of the two
bands In memory of the sixtieth
anniversary of the Sunbeam
band organization of the South
The dining room of the church
was beautifully decorated with
the Sunbeam colors yellow and
white The color scheme was al-
so carried out on the table with
the birthday cake of white icing
with yellow trimming ancf can-
dies
A great many beautiful bou
quets of garden flowers adorned
the table and piano
Games were enjoyed by the
mothers following the program
by the children and refreshments
of angel food cake and punch
were served
The Canadian Rodeo club Is
busy making plans for a roping
tournament to be held here

Joe E Boyd Jr will arrive
here Sunday afternoon from Aus-
tin where he Is studying for his
masters degree in music He
will visit here between semes-
ters with his parents the Rev
and Mrs Joe E Boyd Their
son John who Is majoring in
agriculture at Texas Tech will
arrive Tuesday ta stay until the
fall term opens
Charlie Bettls has purchased
the Red Top filling station from
Oscar Parrott and will take over
the first of the month

Party Here Mon
Bobby South son of Mr and
Mrs Alvin South was honored
with a birthday dinner Sunday
at the Brainard ranch on Johns
creek A delicious dinner was
served The birthday cake bak-
ed by Mrs J A Morris was iced
in a lovely shade of green with
Bobby Inscribed in pink icing
and was so lovely that Bobby
did not want to have it cut
Guests were Mr and Mrs Joe
Ortega and Mr and Mrs J A
Morris and sons Alton and
Enid Lyle
The afternoon was marred by
an accident to Mrs Ortega while
horseback riding Her hat blew
off and frightened her horse
causing him to run away Her
sister succeeded In turning him
toward the house but as they
neared the building the horse
threw Mrs Ortega and she was
unconscious for a long time She
received a very painful Injury
to her left hip but is now up and
around

Firemen Check
Fire Equipment
The Canadian volunteer fire
department held an unusually
long and busy meeting on Thurs
day night of last week They
unloaded the 1200 feet of hose
from the pumper truck and gave
It a good scrubbing to remove
soot and dirt and tested all the
couplings before reloading
This was an extra re check of
equipment after having helped
battle the elevator fire at Hlgglns
last week
In their business session which
followed the work the firemen
presented plans for controlling
the spectator nuisance at fires
Mayor Jess Llndlcy and Jim
Reid commissioner who were
present at the meetlhg promised
their cooperation as well as
that of the police Some drastic
action Is promised In connec
tion with the hazard of specta
tors who chase the fire truck
John Wilkinson was made cap-
tain of the pumper team to com
pete at the Panhandle Firemens
Association convention to oe
held at Quanah on September
10 The Are boys are rigging up
for water polo practice and will
also enter that contest at the
convention Chief Preston Hut-
ton presented letters from the
firemens training school in
which the city and the fire de
partment were commended for
having sent men to the school
R L Durham and Carl Zybach
were the firemen who attended
the training school They took
different courses and both made
excellent grades
A deal is supposed to be closed
today In which the Vemon and
Edgar Close ranch will become
the property of J O Wells of
Roberts county and the J O
Wells ranch will become the
property of R L and James

For her marriage the bride
chose a street length dress of
white cashmere with navy acces-
sories Her corsage was of pas-
tel pink gladiolas
The brides only attendant was-
her sister Miss Lola Farnsworth
She wore an aqua dress with
white accessories and hex cor-
sage was white asters
Dean Atchison cousin of the
bridegroom was best man
The bride graduated from Ca-
nadian high school In May 1946
The bridegroom Is a graduate of
Perryton high school with the
class of 1941 and is now employ-
ed by the Perryton Texaco whole-
sale company
The young couple are making
their home In Perryton

from Dalhart visited In the Mrs

ciations recent survey among
813 superintendents represent-
ing 33 958 teaching positions
shows that there are at this time
4324 positions vacant The
smaller cities are affected most
being unable to provide suffi-
cient salary increase to interest
capable teachers
