Jack Nix Spends
Youth In Canada
Laws Strict There

Jack Nix one of our most en-
lightened city employees was
brought up in Canada and the
cold weather here doesnt affect
him In the least for he has seen
it 08 degrees below zero al-
though quote not so deleted
damp and windy
Jack was raised around Al-
berta and used to get adollar
apiece for all tho muskrats he
could catch He Is used to big
crops too Four hundred to 500
bushels of potatoes to the acre
was Just about average he says
and 110bushel oats and 40
bushel wheat was the usual
thing
He says the laws are much
stricter in Canada but insists
that that had nothing to do
with his coming to the States
Mountles before WorldsWar I
had to be born In England and
anyone pleading guilty was
hung without a trial If the crime
warranted it
Jack came to Canadian from
Rochester N Y and has been
all over Canada and the United
States with tho exception of
California He sajs he wants
to visit Old Mexico Hawaii and
make a trip to his old homo In
Canada and then he will die

families were not able to be
present this year

calendar for the holidays

On Tuesday they attended the
Durham high school alumni
banquet and the next day they
went to Amarlllo where Mr Pye
att attended a mechanics meet

From there they went to Dal
las to spend a few days before
returning home
This year It Is hoped that tho
residents of Miami will want to
bring their Christmas trees to
the new recreation park on Jan-
uary 5 and that evening cele
brate Epiphany All the Christ
mas trees are gathered Into one
huge pile and at a given signal
lighted while the participants
sing all the old familiar tunes
until the last dying embers can
