AN ORDINANCE
Levying a Poll Tax.
Be it ordained by the City Council of
the city of Brenham,
Skc. 1. That there be and is hereby
1 vied for the use of the city a poll tax
of one dollar upon every male citizen
ot the said city of Brenham. between
the ages of twenty one and sixty years.
Skc. 2. That the Assessor and Ool
lector proceed to assess said tax upon
the tax rolls and collect the same in
accordance wih law.
Skc. 3. All ordinances and parts of
ordinances in conflict with this ordi-
nance, the same be and are hereby re-
pealed. and that this ordinance take ef-
lect from and after its passage.

RESOLUTION
Authorizing the purchase from E. P.
Davis i f the 'old Key Homestead' for
school purposes.
Whereas E. P Davis, the owner of
the property now rented for and occu-
pied by the Public Free Schools of the
city, and known as the 'old Key Home-
stead,' has offered the same for sale to
the city for the sum of two thousand
and five bundled dollars, payable on*
thousand dollnrsin cash; one hundred
and fifty dollars January 1st, 1878; six
hundred and seventy five dollars Sept..
22d, 1878; and six hundred and seven-
ty five dollars Sept. 22d, 1879, with in-
terest on deferred payments at the rate
of ten per cent per annum; therefore,
be it resolved bv the City Council of
the city of Brenham,
1. That the city accept the said offer
of the said E. P. Davis, and purchase
the pr perty upou the terms mentioned
therein.
2. The Mayor is hereby authorized
and instructed to use the for the pur-
pose of nt- king said purchase, the pro-
ceeds of the sale of the lot of land
g.ven to the city for school purges by
the Masonic Lodge; and that ho draw
drafts attested by the Secretary, upon
the Treasurer of the city, to be paid
out. of the School Bui'ding Fund, for
the deferred payments as above men-
tioned.
8. The said E. P. Davis shall execute
a deed for said property, conveying the
same with full covenants of warrants
to John T. J. O'Kiord >n, Mayor, and K.
Hoffman, J. F! Parks. B. Reichardt
and J. McFarland, Aldermen, and their
successors in office, ex-offlcio Board of
Directors of the Public Free Schools
