county will average 100 bushels
to the acre.
— A Bell county farmer has
invented and patented a ma-
chine for cutting grubs.
— The Belton Journal says
an undoubtedly rich vein of sil-
ver has been struck near Brown •
wood.
— Because of the continued
drought, the wheat crop of Bell
county will be cut short one-
half.
— Ice is now retailed in Aus-
tin at one cent a pound. Its
use by families is becoming quite
general.
— The Mitchell dramatic
troupe has been delighting the
citizens of the quiet village of
Caldwell.
— Rev. John D. Wright, for-
merly of Bremham, has been
appointed pastor of the Baptist
church at Manor, Travis county.
— Dr. J. F. Benbrook, of
Rockwall county, was taken to
Dallas and put under a $500
bond for using cancelled postage
stamps.
— The Belton Journal gives
a two column account of the
walking match at that place
and illustrates it with matchless
homemade engravings.
— George Kramer's store in
East Waco, was honored by a
call from burglars. They open-
ed the ;safe and took $110.45.
Goods were not disturbed.
— A Waco chemist has in-
vented an apparatus by which
every family can make its own
ice. The machine and chemi-
cals to last during the entire
summer costs but about $15.
— Two horse-thieves were
arrested near Waco after a des-
perate fight in which knives and
pistols were freely used. One
says he jumped his bond in Go
Lime and Cement.
