Tin Banner lias recently been enlarged to a thirty-twt
column paper: being now the largest paper ever publiblied in tin
county. It is the only English newspaper published in the county,
and is the acknowled organ ot the Democracy ot Austin, Washing-
ton and Burleson counties. Its columns are always well tillec
with items of State and general news, as well as sound and inter-
esting Editorials upon all the important topics ot the day.
TnK Banner is, aud always has been the stead fast lriend of the
r w
poor and working class; as such, has labored for their interest and
advancement, by favoring and advocating the emmigration to out
county of intelligent and industrious white men. It advocates t!u
speedy development of the vast resources of our great and gruw-
ing State, by encouragiug the establishment of manufactories ol
all kinds; favoring Railroad communication with sections ol oui
State not yet penetrated by existing lines.
The Bahner is a zealous worker in behalf of Brenham and
Washington county. Coming to Brenham iu January 18513, when
it was Imt a small village of 300 inhabitants, wc have watched its-
onw$rd inarch of improvement with great pride and satisfaction;
until now instead of 300, her population is near 4000 souls, and
still her progress is onward. During this time (20 years,) we have
been in some way connected with her journalism, working and stri-
ving tor the posperity of our town, and we expect to continue our
labors unremittingly, merely asking a liberal and sustaining pat-
ronage at the hands of the public we have so long and faithfully
served.
Politically, the Banner has ever been iound battling for tin
triumph ol the true and living principles of the Democratic party;
and, as a Democrat have yielded a cordial and hearty support t<
Gov. Coke and our present State Government. We discuss all
public issues from a strictly democratic standpoint, independent
of any clique or ring.
The Banner opposes and deprecates the extravagance and
corruption ot the party now controlling the affairs of the General
Government, and favors an early restoration of the same into tin
care and guidance of competent and honest officials—the true rep-
resentatives ot the people. It also favors the most rigid econonn
in the administration of the affairs of Government, both State and
Federal, that labor may be lightly burdened by taxation.

Sarsaparilla
If widely known
as one of the most
effectual reme-
dies ever discov-
ered for cleans-
ing the. system
and purifying the
bloed. It has
stood the test of
years, with a con-
stantly growing
reputation, based on its intrinsic virtues,
and sustained by its remarkable cures.
So milil as to be safe and beneficial to
children, and yet so searching as to
eIT. dually purge out the great corrup-
tions of the blood, such as the scrof-
ulous nnd syphilitic oontainiuation.
Impurities or diseases that have lurked
in the system for years soon yield to
this powerful antitlote, and disapjiear.
Hence its wonderful cures, many of
which are publicly known, of SerotVlla,
and all scrofulous diseases. Ulcers,
Eruptions, and eruptive disorders of
the skin, Tumors, Itlotclies,-Boils,
Pimples, Pustules, Sores, St.
Anthony's Fire, Rose or Ery-
sipelas, Tetter, Salt Rlicum,
Sculil Head, lilnfrworni, and in-
ternal Uleerations of the Uterus,
Stomach, and Liver. It also cure#
other complaints, to which it wauld not
seem especially adapted, such as Drop-
sy, Dyspepsia, Fits, Neuralgia,
Heart Disease, Female Weak-
ness, Debility, and Leueorrlioea,
when they are manifestations of the
scrofulous poisons.
It is an excellent restorer of health
and strength in the Spring. By renew-
ing the appetite and vigor of the diges-
tive organs, it dissipates the depression
and listless languor of the season.
Even where no disorder appears, people
feel better, and live longer, for cleansing
the blood. Hie system moves on with
renewed vigor and a new lease of life.

They are a mild

contain no mer-

«erioa« giekness and suffering is prevented by
their timely use; and every family should
have them on hand for their protection and
relief, when required. Long experrenee has
proved them to be the safest, surest, and
best of all the I'llls with which the market
abounds. By their occasional use, the blood
is ourilied, tlie corruptions of the system ex-
celled, obstructions removed, and the whole
machinery oflifo restored to its healthy activ-
ity. Internal organs which become clogged
and sluggish are cleansed by Ai/er 'a Pills,
and stimulated into action. Thus incipient
disease is changed into health, the value of
which change, when reckoned on the vast
multitudes who enjoy it, ean hardly be com-
puted. Their sugar-coating makes them
pleasant to take, and preserves their virtues
unimpaired l'or any length of time, so that
they are evsr fresh, and perfectly reliable.
Although searching, they are mild, and oper-
ate without disturbance io the constitution or
diet or occupation.
