I HE daily enquiries made at thisxlepartment relative to the publi
cation of the laws evince much solicitude among the peopic on this
snbject,.for whose information 1 deem it proper to stp.te, that up to the
adjournment of the late session of congress none had been published tor
distribution except a limited number ot copies, containing onty the ju-
diciary acts passed at the first session; the contract for the printing of
the laws generally having failed.
At that time I applied to the editor of the Telegraph, with whom
I made an arrangement for their publication to be done so soon as prac-
ticable ; for that purpose paper was procured from New Orleans; the
enactments of the two sessions, which will make a olume of about 300
pages, are now in. press and will be ready for distribution in a few weeks.
A variety of peculiar and unavoidable causes have delayed the ex-
ecution of this work; but I am confident it will henceforth progress reg-
ularly until completed. H. A.. IRION, Scy. of state.

I gfrcity to look into the natural advantages of thoe offered for iale',

the increasing emigration, it will be gathered sooner than the wildest enthusi-
ast ever dreamed of."
The proprietors'now for the firsttime, offer to the public lots in the citj'
of Richmond, which they will sell on accommodating terms to those v ho ma
wish to improve them. Many of the most desirable lota remain unsold, as the
proprietors haverefused to sell, in etery instance up to this time, except under
the express condition that purchasers should improve them forthwith. Five
large commercial houses will be established at this place within six months, vii.
Walter C. White, Martin & Clow, Handy At Lusk, Texas, Masterson St, Fish-
er, Nashville, "I enn. and Jame3 Brown k. Co .. New York.. Various mechanical
branches of business are also about being established, and "tis said' that one or
two banks will be located at thf city of Richmond.
The city of Richmond is situated on the west hank of the Brazos, at the
footof the great bend, a short distance below the Fort Band rapids, about 130
miles from the Gulf by wuter, and 65 miles by land; and isat the luad of steam
boat navigation, at a Iowstage of water. The site is on a beautiful high prai-'
rie reaching boldly up to the river, and which was six feet above the highest
water, during the great flood of 1833. The country from Richmond to San An-
tonio is connected by a chain of beautiful undulating prairies, broken only by
the waters of the San Bernard, Colorado, Navidad, La Bacca and Guadalupe".
On the south west, the country is open to the Gulf, and althaugh sixty mile
distant, the sea breeze is felt in all its freshneis.
The best commentary upon the health of Richmond and the surrounding
country is, that although by far the most densely settled portion of the repub-
lic, it never has given support to one physician. Of the quality of land, it is
enough to say that the wnole "Fort Bena" was taken up by ''the first three
hundred ." When our lamented fellow-citizen, S. F. Austin first came to thii
country, he requested one of his companions, Mr. Wm. Little, who now resides
near Richmond, to take a party of men, and to ascend the Brazos rn er until he
reached the best point at the head of navigation fop a town. Mr. Little and
his party selected the spot on which the city of Richmond is laid off; and the
first settlers having forted themsehes for many years at this point, gave it the
well known name of "Fort Bend," or "Fort settlement."
A line of steamboats will commence running from the city of Richmond
to Quiutana and Velasco early in autumn, to be connected with the New Or-
leans and Texas line of steam packets.

UNRESERVED SALE
or
HOUSTOICITILOTS.
THE undersigned, agent of the proprietors, informs the public that
a public sale of lots in the city of Houston will take place on Wed
nesday, the 15th of November next, and will continue from day to day,
until the whole are disposed of.
The rapid progress of improvement in this city has astonishsd eve-
ry beholder, and is not rivalled probably b any new town in the Uni-
ted States. On the 19th of January last the first lot was sold, and up to
this time the sales amount to upwards of two hundred thousand dollars,
and every day is rapidly increasing the amount.
No inland town in Texas can compare with this in point of eligibil-
ity of location; and when a rail road, forty miles in extent, shall be run
connecting it with the Brazos river, we unhesitatingly assert thatno in
land town in the United Slates will have the same extensive richcoun-
try to support it. -
Situated at the head of navigation on Buffalo bayou, it must ever
command the trade and produce of the country to the north of it: and for
years to come will be the stopping point of emigration through Galves
ton bay.
The "Texas r?il road navigation and "banking" institution is locat-
ed at this place, and fifteen thousand dollars has already been appro
priated by the directors to the building of a banking houe: and we are
assured the bank will commence ODerations next November.
Tho rail road from this city to the Brazos rior will positively bo-
constructed. Eighty-six thousand dollars in this place has already been
subscribed, and in ninety days from this time three Hundred thousand
dollars will be subscribed.
The proprietors thus far have spared no expense in urging forward
the improvement of this city. They have lately donated one thousand
acres of the timbered land to a New-York company, who have obligated
themselves forthwith to erect a steam saw mill, lath and shingle ma-
chine, to cost thirty thousand dollars; calculated also for dressing the
plarfk for immediate use. ,
TERMS.
Notes, with approved personal security, payable in six, twelve,
eighteen, and twenty-four months will be required.
The New Orleans Bulletin, Mobile Register, Charleston Mercury,
New York Enquirer, Nashville Whig'and Banner, the Western Caro-
linian, (N. C.) Richmond Whig, and Louisville Journal, will insert the
foregoing advertisement two months, and send tbeir accounts to Wil-
